*starts frothing at the mouth*

Now all I need is an announcement of the anime and manga being licensed...

Fantastic news indeed... I just hope that if they bring the series to the west, they do a good job explaining the Hikikomori theme to viewers.

For those of you who don't know Japanese. The title of the anime means Welcome to NHK!. Say, I'm guessing the anime was produced to introduce people to NHK, isn't?

That depends on which "NHK" you are talking about. Check out its trivia first.

Personally I think otherwise. The manga fits the common image that otaku = hikikomori = lolicon, but they are not the same, although many do overlap.

Darn. Not only will there be no Domo-kun, this NHK reminds me of Rozen Maiden, which is a very BAD thing. ><

Although, it does kinda remind me of the Happy Family Planning episode of Paranoia Agent, but I'm not entirely sure why.

Well, I said Jun is the best example in recent anime. Another recent anime-related sample was the glassed guy who left finished dinner plates in front of his room in Densha Otoko TV.

Thanks for the heads up. I usually watch NHK every night.

That series reminds me of Densha Otaku (?) (Train Otaku).

Damn.

Ideas for a show where the NHK meant the broadcaster:

*A heavy-handed satire of the inherent contradictions between working at a government-funded broadcaster and the imagnary standard of "objectivity", vis-a-vie the tightly controlled Japanese press
* The day-to-day life of an door-to-door NHK person
* The madcap adventures inherent in creating a producing a NHK show

Add more if you can think of them.

I'd watch those Smile (the latter sounds suspiciously like Animation Runner Kuromi though Very Happy )
