I just watched Karas: The Prophecy the other day, and I have a couple of questions that I was unable to find out on my own. Now, I know that this was only the first part of it and there is more to come, but I did NOT know this until after I had watched it. Man, you should have seen how pissed off I was, it was almost pathetic, heh heh. BUT, well here's my questions:
1. On this site, it says that there are 6 episodes in total, but does that mean that each "episode" is 90 minutes like The Prophecy was, or are they condensed into a movie form for the US release as Armitage III was and will not have 6 installments for the US release?
2. The characters seemed like they had potential, but this installment did not have too much along the lines of character development and had little character relations with one another, which kind of dissappointed me (I'm a big character person). So, do the characters get developed nicely throughout the rest of this, or does it remain focused on the action and the overal objective of Ecko(sp)?
and 3. Am I just completely jumping the gun with these questions and has no one even seen beyond The Prophecy?
I loved what I saw, the animation was amazing, and the story, though hard to see through out the first half hour or so, intrigued me. However, I am still going to investigate further before spending money. Thanks in advance.

My God! You've put into words exactly what I felt/feel.
I was so confused !
I've actually taken it off my shelf and put in my "to sell" pile. But, if someone can give me a good reason to stick it out, I'll put it back.
Have to admit the indentical two girls with the twin white ponytails is probably a main source of my confusion.

When the new Karas's pony-tailed girl was captured, that other unexplained chick said something like "That's unfair that they attacked his true body" or something like that. Still confusing, but maybe their the actual life force that sustains Karas? I dunno
Yeah, I rented it from Netflix, and I am very confused on a lot of things, but there IS more to it, so I'm not ready to give up on it just yet.

Okay, I guess I wasn't ticked off because I always research a title before I pick it up and so I was aware that this was only half of it and there was still more to come. Sadly, the more to come doesn't actually come until late September.

No, each one was around 30 minutes, it's an OAV so it's not like a standard series. The first DVD consisted of the first three episodes and the second will have the last three.

True, it did lack character development but I didn't feel like it didn't offer enough. I'm going to put spoiler tags here for any who haven't seen the first DVD, if you have however there's nothing here to spoil the rest past the first release. Karas himself was left somewhat enigmatic, as well as Eko, I imagine this was intentional however as it would seem their pasts have a part to play that they want left in the dark for the time being. I felt Nue got plenty of development, you really get to know his character although his true purpose to Eko is still unknown.
I think part of the problem is they want the story to remain in the dark, and developing the characters too much would have an impact on that as their nature and intent seems to be at the heart of the story, especially Eko. I'm a big character person as well, but I didn't feel like a lot was left out that shouldn't have been nor do I really think it's the type of show that necessarily needs a ton of development.

I have not seen past it, but I did love it and have watched it enough to pick up on everything. It's really something you need to see at least twice, the first time to get all the basics and the second time to pick up on the subtleties you'd likely miss without the full basics. The story isn't incredibly clear but it's there, it just takes an amount of perception to pick it up and likely multiple viewings. It's no Advent Children though, there's substance to it, not all just flash.

They are the guardians, and the source of Karas' power. There's actually been three shown thus far, the one that Eko has locked away, the pink haired one that has the female Karas with her that pretty much have only watched, and the white haired one that is the one we see the most. The two with the current Karas and Eko are obvious, the pink haired one is an enigma but I'm rather certain that is intentional.

No I had no idea what was up either, for the most part.
And not to argue(with the other posts) but I thought this was a 3 part release.

From my understand there were 3 DVD's released in Japan, but from all indications so far there will only be 2 releases in the US.

I'd have to say hold of on selling this until you at least see the next disk. I was quite impresses by what I saw, and am eagerly anticipating the next session.
The story was intriguing and pretty cool. The art was excellent, and mixed CG with traditional styles quite well - except for the one transition scene in the beginning with a bloody karas' face on the roof. The sound was awesome, and had some really good surround effects during the Karas fights. I was also very impressed by the english dub. As somebody who usually watches the subs, the VAs were outstanding.
Even the day it came out, this first disk was selling for as low as $9.99 brand new on Amazon. Even if the 2nd volume is only half as good, that's money well spent!

Okay, I'll take your advice and take it out of the sell pile. I haven't seen the second disk listed on Right Stuf as yet but when it does, I'll put in a request for it.

Yeah, I suppose you're right there. I guess my view on the characterization was probably influenced by the fact that I did not know it was only the first half of the story on my first watch through.

I recently purchased this title aswell for under fifteen dollars to me that matters. I am far more critical of something if I spend more on it. In other words if its merely good, and is cheap I feal I got my dollars worth.
I felt the animation, sound, and dub was pretty nice. I am not much in to subs but it did not come off as clipped which matters. The only issue with the animation I had was it was way too hectic, and actually too fast in some points. Information overload is fine for artistic purposes, but it does have a downside in that it does take away some of the appreciation for exactly what is takeing place.
Perhaps I am more of a deeper meanings guy, and am just a bit better at analyzeing anime series. I found the story a bit confuseing to start off with before I started putting peices together for myself. I would give it a few more cracks before I passed it off as being totally confuseing. Part of the fun of these series is working it out for yourself. After all you watch a mystery to solve the mystery.
I too did not know it was multipart, but you know in all fairness prophecy does have enough to stand on its own. There is enough deapth there to find enjoyment from. I did not feal left hanging too awful bad. Yeah I want to see more, but I find I can enjoy what basically amounts to a movie over and over.
I thought it was good not great. Maybe the next installment will make it even better, or it might not. I feal I got my moneys worth, and if the second is the same as the first I will buy it, and even if it is merely okay I will still get my value.

I picked this up on a whim when I saw it at Target. Watched it and was lost but it was so amazing I cant wait to see the next one. That was some of the best 2d and CG integration I have seen.
