What the hell is up with all these "Remix" editions? Why the name? The first title I remember was Cowboy Bebop, then came X and now Trigun. I've said it once, and I'll say it again; "Whats Next?"

Did the most recent releases of Trigun contain 5.1 audio? I know each of those boxes sells for about $90 at Best Buy so I kind of thought that 5.1 and digital restoration where a must for those prices.

Do these Remix editions offer anything else besides a 5.1 audio track? I remember hearing that Cowboy Bebop Remix was going to contain newly added scenes, has anyone noticed if anything new was added besides 5.1?

Trigun Remix Vol. 1 is listed at 125 minutes, so it will be atleast 5 episodes for volume 1. Judging by Geneon's (Pioneer) release of X, this series might be 5 DVD's long, or maybe 6, so it will definatly be much cheaper than the recent Trigun Tins. I've been looking to pick up Trigun on DVD for a long time now, so I am really happy this will be released. Although I admit I didn't really like the series until the half-way point.

I think its a good idea that a new version is being put together. With all the airtime they've been getting, seems like they could make more money putting out something new (kind of). Its certainly a good thing a cheaper version is being made. I've been looking to buy Trigun when I have the money too, so I'm happy.

You also must consider how hard it is to find the older releases of Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, etc. There is no way you could go to a Best Buy or any major outlet and find it. Its just re-releasing for a newer audience, especially since the anime audience is considerbly larger than when these shows first aired.

Also, don't forget the advancements in technology since these series were first released. For those of us who have 5.1 capabilities, that extra track might just be worthed re-purchasing the series.

Trigun will probably have the original openings. The original discs replaced the individual openings with the one used in the first episode. The Tins used the originals so these should too.

I read that each episode has it's own intro and that's how the Remix editions will come with. Are these like the "unique" intros in s-CRY-ed where only a couple of scenes are changed during the intro?

THAT is assuming that HD-DVD doesn't become the perfer format. I think that HD-DVD probably will be, but that neither here nor there. Remind me of VHS and Betamax. I think that if PS3 becomes a huge hit then Blue Ray will become the perfer format in the coming decade.
Till next time,

P.S. Anyone pick a HD-DVD or Blue Ray player yet?

True, either way you know company's are going to be trying to get people buy anime they already have. I am sure both formats are great, but you won't see me buying titles I already own. DVD is good enough for me. If it is better great, but DVD is fine by me.

It is probably necessary since we are becoming so technologically advanced, obviously older things are becoming less adaptable to some of those players today.

PS2, PS3, XBOX 360
That is true, my bad. Reason for releasing something old is to give it to another generation, make it look better in quality, and make moula.

Oh please. HD-DVD and Blu-ray are overrated. Unless the video masters are HD quality, there won't be any significant changes in video quality unless the studio wants to pour money into retouching the masters.

That may be true, but they will still try to convince you it is better quality, and that the one you own is crap.

Also I say that may be true, because on ones tht the masters are actually on film I would say yes, way expensive to remaster.

Some newer programs I believe the masters are huge digital files nowadays. In that case, remaster to the higher capacity disc, I.E. (Better resolution on bigger screens) would not cost as much as you think.

I pretty sure the masters for the new Trigun is the same that Geneon used for the two tins. These did include the originial Japanese opening credits. The 5.1 job they did on the first four Bebop remixes are amazing, I would go as far as say they are as good as the audio on the Eva Platinums, and I'm glad I'm rebuying the series. Although I enjoyed X, I'm not sure if I'm willing to rebuy or even rewatch the entire series anytime soon. The best rerelease I would say goes to the Patlabor Honneamise box set. Not only did they do a good job in remastering the DVD, but the two books included are fantastic. They actually translated the entire storyboard book.

There is the fact that both Sony and Pioneer are backing BR. Don't expect to see Advent Children or any of the Geneon titles on HDDVD. Bandai also has traditionally sided with Playstation although I believe they do have a 360 Gundam game comming out. Either format might be the lasting format, but I believe most of the anime companies will side with Blu-Ray. Add to this the Blu-Ray discs have a higher capacity and are very scratch proof and my choice is clear.

The two formats might be over hyped but there is a very clear difference between an NTSC signal and a true 1080 progressive signal. I'm holding off on buying an HDDVD player since it can't display a 1080p image, but probably buy either the Sony or the Pioneer Blu-Ray next month. 1080i televisions have been around waiting for a format that can take advantage of their high resolution. This doesn't make current DVDs any crappier, but is exciting for those of us who tend to rebuy there favorite titles each time they are remastered.
