Might I suggest including Voltron and Robotech?

I was wondering where "Battle of the Planets" (Gatchaman) was...

For Shame!
Samurai Pizza Cats was unlisted; so that's what I choose.

I'm shocked Voltron isn't on the list. That was my first introduction to anime some... odd... years ago. Manga--Blade of the Immortal.

Voltron was my "first" anime (along with Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs) back in 1985ish, but I don't consider those to be the shows that "introduced" me to anime, since I was young and didn't realize they weren't "just cartoons."
It wasn't until 12 years later, on a fateful July morning that I stumbled across Sailor Moon on the USA Network. Yup, I'm one of those, a fan brought in by girls fighting for love and justice in short skirts with awesome hair.

I have a similar story. When I was young I used to watch many different anime without knowing what they were - Voltron, Robotech, Fables Of The Green Forest, etc...
It wasn't until until the era of Sailor Moon & Samurai Pizza Cats that I realized that these were anime. Even then, I didn't actually become an otaku until years later, when I got a DVD player.
I didn't get into manga until about 1996, when I bought two Ranma 1/2 books. And I didn't buy another manga until almost 10 years later, when I found out they didn't cost an arm and a leg anymore!

Gah! I didn't notice that Galaxy Express 999 was grouped under Captain Harlock until after I voted one of the "unlisted" categories. Any chance that can be corrected?
Also, caught a typo: "Bubglegum Crisis 2032 / Crash! / ADP Files"

Heh, perhaps this shows how much i'm out of the anime mainstream...out of the top 4 voted anime, I have seen exactly....zero...and in the 5th place (Cowboy Bebop) I haven't seen the entire series.
Meanwhile, I'm looking figuring that anime like Last Exile and Fruits Baskets would have a lot of votes and have a total of 2...both with Fruits Basket. I'm surprised that Chobits and Full Metal Alchemist only have 3 as well.
but ahahaha...I'm not the only one who voted for DNA^2. yes! I'm not totally alone!

I'm in the same boat with you. I grew up watching Star Blazers, Votron, and Mazinger Z (although the latter was called Tranzor Z when it aired in syndication), but I was too young and naive to notice that they originated in Japan. Sailor Moon was the title that got me to really notice what anime really is and take a great interest in it (Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh helped a little as well), and that's the point of the poll.

The first anime title I watched (that I consciously knew was Japanese) was Ronin Warriors (Yoroiden Samurai Troopers), when it was in a lineup including Dragon Ball Z and Samurai Pizza Cats. I noticed how differently it was animated compared to other cartoons I was watching and got addicted to it based on how exotic it seemed.

What? No love for speed racer? I'm fairly sure that was one of the first anime I viewed.... Not to mention it was the FIRST truly successful anime to be broadcast in America.

Haha, I did exactly the same thing as you did and missed GE999 in the poll the first time, too. It does give you the option to change your vote, though.

I'm surprised by a few of the shows that aren't on the list. I didn't realize that Speed Racer was one of the excluded ones. I just sort of assumed it was there.
While I voted Sailor Moon as my 'intro', I was actually recommended the show (many months before I ever actually saw it) because I mentioned liking "that Japanese show" Speed Racer when there was a marathon on Cartoon Network... Oh well, didn't obsess over it nearly as much as BSSM, so I won't bother changing my poll result.

Doraemon I guess I can understand since it's never been shown over here. But that was the first one for me. My first licensed one was Sailor Moon.

Yeah I was looking for Speed Racer also, though Gatchaman was technically my first one (when it was called G-Force and was shown on Cartoon Network around '93-'94). I'm surprised neither was mentioned in the poll
