So I got my copy in the mail today and had a chance to finally watch it. It's a pretty good movie if you're a FFVII fan, though I'm not going to call it some monument of animated greatness anytime soon.

The story was a little confusing here and there, but made enough sense overall that it was basically spoiler[ the reunion of those Sephiroth remnants trying to resurrect Jenova and destroy the planet again]. Not much depth, but all the action sequences were very well animated. It's definitely a good action title.

Also, with this being my first time seeing it, I decided to watch it in English with some spot checking in Japanese every now and then, and I must say the dub is excellent. If part of the reason for the uber long delay was to cast and record all of this, it was well worth it. Of course, the subs aren't very pretty to read anyway, as they're big and yellow, taking up a bit of the screen. But still, the overall English production was very, very good.

The only problem I had was the flow of the dialogue, but of course, that's to be expected from a CG movie with mouthflaps meant for the Japanese language.

Supposedly, the sound is a crisp 5.1 DD, but due to some technical issues, I wasn't able to listen to it in that format, though I'm sure it will sound great when I rewatch it the next time.

I haven't had a chance to watch any of the extras yet either, but so far, the DVD seems like a pretty admirable product (aside from Last Order not being on there).

Uh.. I guess that's it. I just wanted to say it was a great action movie and the English dub was very well done. Please leave your comments and have a good day/evening Very Happy.

But how would the movie rate if one has never seen or played Final Fantasy before?

It'd be pretty difficult to enjoy to its fullest extent.

Although they do have a small prologue at the beginning to explain the end events of the game, there are also many references throughout the movie that might not make any sense unless you've actually played through it.

Character quirks, flashbacks, terminology, those sorts of things are rampant during a majority of the film, and will more than likely leave an uneducated viewer completely lost.

But like I said, it's a pretty good action film aside from the story.

I've never played the game, I don't know the motivation or background of the characters, and I did not understand the plot or theme of this movie.

However, the CG art is just beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off it - I would recommend watching it *just* to see the animation, even if your not a FF fan Smile

Quite frankly, I wouldn't recommend it to a non-FF7 fan. It's certainly beautiful and has a great dub, but it is definately made for FF7 fans. Too much of the movie just doesn't make sense or just isn't cool unless you have played FF7.

Eh, I watch this with one of my buddies. He never played the game didn't know what the hell was going on and who the character weres. He saw the fight scene and thought the animation was cool, but that's it.

Definitely for fans of FFVII, otherwise don't buy it and say the movie suck because it was confusing.

i have to agree it's good for FF fans. But not so good for people who never play the game.

10/10 for FF fans
7/10 for people who never play the game(just for the CG and action)

remember this is a sequel to the game. not a remake.

Unfortunately I won't be able to see it until about 10 hours from now. Not to hijack this topic but where did you get or are planning on getting your DVD copy? I pre-ordered it at Suncoast ($19.99) since Best Buy had theirs listed for $22.99. But my girlfriend told me the other day that she was looking through the newspaper ads and was on sale for $14.99. I think I'm going to exchange my $8 store credit deposit from FFVII to Patlabor Movie 1 and pick up FFVII at Best Buy.

I was really hoping that the movie had a recap of what happened in the game but I wonder how it turned out. With Silent Hill coming out, and college, I decided to go through Silent Hill instead of FFVII due to time restraints.

I'm a huge fan of FF and have been holding off on watching the circulating bootleg so I really hope it was worth the waiting. Everyone has mentioned how great the fighting is but I hope there is atleast a decent story to move forward these action sequences.

I am still waiting for my copy to come in. It was shipped today.

Although I watched this already, I want to see the dub.

As to whether or not this is good for a non FF fan or someone who hasn't played FF7, it is still reasonable accessible. Although some background info may be a bit unclear.

I thought it was almost perfect. FF7 is one of the most important RPG's in the history of video games, and AC captured the spirit of the game perfectly. I was a little disappointed with the animation though. Now don't get me wrong, it was still remarkable, but it just wasn't as crisp Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Again, this is just my opinion, but it just didn't look as finished as it could have been. But its defiantly a nice ending to the FF7 story. Unless the remake FF7 for the PS3, as I have herd so many rumors for, this is a quality ending.

There won't be a remake for the PS3. Been discussed everywhere already.

I can't help but believe that a Blu-Ray edition of the DVD will be out by the end of the year since Sony released the film. Of course I bought the standard version for now, since I might wait until the PS3 release for a BR player. I feel as though anime will tend to favor BR over HDDVD with Sony and Pioneer being it's main backers, but I will save the reasons for a more relevant topic.

The FFVII Intro Remake for the PS3 was just a video to show the possible capabilities of the PS3. It was not an attempt to promote a remake of FFVII what-so-ever.

I actually went to my local Best Buy, and they were sold out of FFVII. Apparently they only received 15 copies, 5 of which were being held by the employees. The other stores had similar situations. I ended up just picking up my copy at Suncoast with the $5 Replay Reward Bucks, it came out to about the same price.

[OT] I also found the complete set of Samurai Gun for only $20. For some reason volume 1 was only $2 (1.99) and the other 3 were $5.99 each. I heard it's not historically accurate, but that it's still pretty entertaining.
