I used to watch Pokemon when it first came to American television many years ago, but I stopped watching it when the series became, in my mind, too repetitive, predictable, and boring.
I am currently wondering how it can still be popular when every episode is practically identical to the one before it, the characters have not grown older or more mature, and the series itself is now longer than Dragon Ball Z. Seriously, even DBZ, as long as it was, knew when to call it quits, and DBZ was by far a better anime than Pokemon, in my opinion.
I feel that the people in charge of the production of the series should bring the show to a conclusion soon, or else the show will slowly start loosing popularity, in my opinion. I feel that the show has lasted long enough, and needs to come to an end. Or the writers can start making the story more complex and intricate, with better plot twists and each episode running into the next, as opposed to the easily predictable plot and self-sustaning episodes that it possesses now. That would almost guarantee a wider audience.
What does everyone else have to say on this matter? Your feedback will be much appreciated.

If it makes money, it shall continue.
There's a fine balance between a company wanting to make money, and a company being loyal to the story.
Most companies would much rather milk a franchise until it stops making money, but that results in the ruining of the experience for fans. But if they suck that badly, fans will not be loyal to them, won't respect them and their future shows, etc.
If Pokemon is still making decent money, which apparantly it is, and is not getting 100% negative feedback, it will keep going and going

I think the same, Pokemon should end soon, the "new pokemon, team Rocket exploding" formula has been over-exploded to death (i still loving it anyway, but i think most people don't). I haven't seen any new episodes from the Master Quest series but, at least then, there was a lot of things that wasn't resolved yet (pending fights, pending reunions with characters from the firsts seasons, etc). I really love Pokemon and i hope the end doesn't dissapoint me, they should do a very emotive ending but without avoiding Pokemon serie's style. But as i said before, for me, it could be eternal, i don't care if it's always "more of the same thing" if it is Pokemon.

Problem with this the whole predictability thing is that it's being aired for a market that doesn't mind mindless repetitive action. The 6-12 year old market. As long as there are going to be 6-12 year olds in this world without discerning tastes, Pokemon will always have the same monster of the day, team rocket enters, team rocket blasts off, everyone happy at the end formula.

Aren't there about 400 episodes of Pokemon now? Jesus Christ, this series needs to die. I can't believe it hasn't yet.
Veronica Taylor (Ash's VA) must be richer than Bill Gates and Donald Trump combined by now.

The franchise is still huge in Japan and is still quite successful here. I heard the latest games(fire red and leaf green) did very well here. So I doubt it'll end anytime soon. It could even end up like Doraemon and run for 30 more years.

I applaud you for saying it in the least offensive way possible. I really tried to say the same thing, but everytime I tried to make the same point. I always felt I came off to harsh.

I see no reason why it has to end. Kids enjoy it and it still makes them a bundle of money on sales and marketing. You don't have to watch it and I don't think they'll take complaints about Pokemon still running from those outside the target audience seriously.

As far as the Japanese are concerned, they don't care. If you go to Tokyo station, they have an actual Pokemon Center. There you can buy all the pokemon goodies to your heart's content. They even sell single cards, too. But as far as I'm concerned, I don't have to watch it so I don't care. If the people like it, then that's okay with me. The only thing is that Pikachu's the only "original" Pokemon that's still around. I'm just amazed how the creators of Pokemon and Takahashi Kazuki can keep coming with new ideas, new monsters, both Pokemon and YuGiOh have been going at it for 10 years now. I've been told that sales for the TCG cards of both series outdo even baseball cards, that's an accomplishment. I see no end to both of these series. People get into these kinds of things, then they grow out of it. But younger people when they're old enough will then get into it. An endless cycle.

i too used to watch pokemon about 5 years ago was it? i loved the orginals and because they were the first anime i'd ever seen i thought they were just amazing. the idea of animals having crazy powers kicking one anothers buts was pretty cool to me.
having said this i do know what u mean, the series is continueing and never stopping which is pretty annoying. good anime in my opinion has only one series and maybe a movie. to drag it out anymore is just stupid and as u said becomes repetitive and boring.
finialy i loved pokemon up to the point brock left and tracey came in. now i turn the channel over if it was to come on tv because your 100 % right, fans of the old series can predict everything thats gonna happen. wether it be ash trying to get a new badge but cant then team rocket come and ash defeats them or stops a natural disaster caused by them, then of course he gets the badge. that there is pretty much the story line to almost half the episodes. i think its a shame whats happend to pokemon. they got a little too big for their boots in my opinion.
thank you

i only watched Pokemon until the first "Tournament", after he collected the (8?) badges... Man it's been so long. But anyways I also don't believe it will go away any time soon. I mean Power Rangers is still on the air, or atleast I think it is considering those commercials and being in Jetix's schedule. Just cause we grew up and don;t watch it anymore, doesn't mean the younger generation is not enjoying it. I still see Pokemon Card tournaments scheduled at my local comic/card shop.

"To protect the world from devestation! To unite all peoples within our nation! To denouce the evils of truth and love! To extend our reach to the stars above! Jesse! James! Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light! Surrender now or prepare to fight! Meowth that's right!"
Who got pissed off after hearing this all the time? And who was the brains of that trio anyway? My favorite TR character was Giovonni. Slick, quiet, and not so irritating as the other three. I remember seeing the episode that caused an epidemic in Japan.

What epidemic? The Pokemon epidemic? I haven't seen the series in so long that I forgot about Team Rocket.

I think he was confusing epidemic and epilepsy. There was an episode that reportedly caused seizures similar to epileptic seizures in some children. I don't think this episode has aired in the U.S.
