is there a way to tell if a manga is completed and fully done on this site. I looked through some titles and it doesn't tell me if the manga is still ongoing or not.
perhaps im not looking in the right place

I think most of them state the length, but the Encyclopedia crew is kind of small. And with SO much information to filter and input, what you see is what you get for now, meaning not all entries are up to date.
If you have questions for a specific title, feel free to post them in the Manga forum to get a potentially quicker answer.

It's not a certainty, but many finished series have the notification "number of tankoubon". The rule is that this number is not filled in before a series is completed (otherwise the staff have to correct this every time a new volume is published).
If a number of tankoubon is mentioned, the series is finished.
If not, you have to find out another way.
Note that the number of tankoubon is the japanese edition, but often the number of english edition is similar.

Won't the tankoubon numbers usually be bigger than the stateside volumes?

I'm don't think that's true seeing as how ANN caters to the North American market. I can't say for sure, though.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I think the answer is no.

Wouldn't this say "number of TPs" ? I thought tankoubon was only meant for original manga compilation (I checked, but it's not in the lexicon ). But I'm not completely sure either.

I just always thought that tankoubon was the term they decided to use. Putting a little Japanese flavor into the listing. I didn't think it was supposed to be specific to one language version or the other. It's mostly irrelevant anyway seeing as how they are usually the same.

What I meant was won't there be more tankoubon's released in Japan than English volumes released here. They should be because they originated in Japan.
