Several years ago, Michael & Janet Jackson released the music video for their song "Scream". What anime clips were included in the video?
Also, aside from Leiji Matsumoto's works on Daft Punk, what other artists used anime clips for their music videos? |

Almost 20 years ago now, an artist by the name of Matthew Sweet did several videos that contained footage and memorbilia from Urusei Yatsura.
(Hah! Beat you to it Ataru. ) If anyone happens to know where a fellow might be able to get a copy of those, BTW, get in contact with me by any means necessary. I would sooooo sell my soul... |

It was more like 1991... 12 years ago. Also, one video, "I've Been Waiting", had Urusei Yatsura footage, the other one, "Girlfriend", used footage from Space Adventure Cobra.
There is no legit way I'm aware of to get these videos... because of rights issues, Matthew Sweet can't post the videos on his site. I tried doing some sort of search using "banned technology" (re: technology we're banned from mentioning in these forums), but all that's coming up right now is the video for the song "One Sweet World" by the Dave Matthews Band. I'm sure Matthew Sweet videos will show up in searches sometime, though. And, yes, I would buy a legit DVD of these videos if and when it's released. |

Michael Jackson used a clip of Tetsuo from Akira in the Scream video. It was only a few seconds, though.

I think Zillions was used in the Jackson video,a lthough I could be mistaken though.
As far as anime merchandise, check Linkin Park's Somewhere I Belong for the GP02Fb Gundam and Salazbi Deluxe Action Figures. Oh and I think there is a Wing Zero in it, too. |

Anyone see in news today where RIAA has announced that they will start tracking and suing people who trade, swap, and traffic in illegal music. I am curious to see how this will affect the AMV industry. Im sure it wont keep people from making them but it may make a big difference in how they get distributed so people can see them. |

From what I understand, they are only going to start off looking for people hosting a large number of MP3's, and since AMV's are usually mpeg or avi, I don't see this becoming an issue just yet, but maybe after they've won a few suits and figure they can go after any use of the material due to setting a precedent of illegal online distro of copyrighted music.

I kinda find that obvious as one of his songs has him yelling, "Devilman! Devilman!" or something like that. Perhaps that's the same video? Zombie himself is an otaku of sorts. During his performance at one of the MTV Video Music Awards shows, he was sporting a denim jacket with an Urotsukidoji cover on the back. He also wrote the foreword of Dark Horse's 3x3 Eyes graphic novel. |

Music Videos Inspired by Anime:
- Shania Twain has a video where she's riding a motorcycle loosely based on Kaneda's bike in AKIRA. - I've read somewhere that the late Aaliyah had a video with graphics inspired by Sharon Apple's concerts in Macross Plus. |
