Considering the game anime's seem to always be the lesser one of popularity, I cna understand why people are wary about game adaptions. In the past, the Ape Escape animes seemed to be semi popular. (These are extremly rare. Also, the Ape Escape that was shown on NickToons was actually an anime, which were 3-4 minute shorts.) But only lasted for so long.
Well,m considering Sony recently announced details on the Ape Escape anime, it seems this'll be a video game adaption of the first game, including a new strange monkey called "Kuhta" (Or however you wish to spell his name). The anime seems it'll be a Cel-shaded route instead of the general traditional Drawn anime. The past anime were all in 3D, but I couldn't tell if they were celshaded or not. Also, the anime's length is maybe 15 minutes long. (Just a rough ETA. It's sharing a timeslot with Rockman.exe Beast PLUS)
My concern is whether or not this anime will bomb, and not in a good way. Sonic was a well known figure, and has pretty much gone throguh some harsh treatment, and Sonic X didn't help matters. (Episode 53 - 78 was better then episode 1 - 52. Unfortently, Japan didn't give it a chance, despite the japanese audio been recorded.)
Ape Escape seems to have a decent following in Japan, and the games seem to be increasing more steadily. Will this help the anime at all? Yes, but the real question is, will it be worth watching? We won't know till it airs.
I just hope everything works out well for Sony and the Ape Escape anime.

Expect a children's anime. And by children's anime yes I do mean something along the lines of Sonic X. This is another franchise that has a potential "mass market appeal" so they gotta reel in those kids. My guess is that it will be about a child who somehow meets a group of ape buddies and a scientist and they have to catch monkeys who are causing all sorts of trouble around town. It's tough making a real story out of monkey catching, and this formulaic set up is the best way to get self contained episodes. Personally if I were to do it I'd just have the kid somehow get mixed up in all of the monkey business (no special moneky buddy or anything like that) and have him all kinds of neat little devices a la James Bond (or for a more anime-style approach, GaoGaiGar style) in order to get those trouble making primates. While I would like to say otherwise, my hopes aren't high for this show. I'll definitley watch at least the first episode though.
