My site's down, so I'll just mention it here: according to this press release, YTV will be airing Detective Conan in April:

NEW ANIME SERIES JOINS BIONIX
On Friday, April 7 at 10:30 p.m., anime series Case Closed, joins YTV’s anime programming block, Bionix.

Case Closed follows the escapades of Jimmy Kudo, the world renowned detective… who’s still in high school! Jimmy’s life is going as planned until mysterious men in black change it forever. They give him an experimental drug that transforms him into the pint-sized Detective Conan. Not giving up on his undercover duties, Jimmy joins his high school sweetheart and her detective father on cases that run the gamut from kidnapping to murder. Piecing together mysteries that even the police are incapable of, he can’t stop wondering whether he’ll ever track down the men who changed his life forever.

Dare I hope that we're one step closer to Fruits Basket?

At the rate it's been going in Japan, think of how long it'll take for it to air (if I'm supposedly right) in Canada. You're gonna be half way through the next decade.....

Actually, it's a youth network in Canada that happens to be the only station playing a substantial amount of anime. Teletoon is our "cartoon channel".

Well, it depends on how fast FUNi dubs it. I believe they have at least 150 episodes of material dubbed already, so if it proves to be successful, YTV will hopefully have the sense to move the show to weeknights at some point.

I think this show will be more succeessful in Canada than here because it's airing at an earlier time slot than it's time slot in CN. When CN showed it, it aired at 12:30 am.

Well, the big problem was that they were targeting it at an 18-34 audience, despite the fact that it was getting great ratings with 12-17 viewers, which they just pretended didn't exist.

Thankfully, that's the audience that YTV will be focusing on.

Although that's not very convenient for a 430 episode series.

The thing with that is that Detective Conan is a show that while does have some childish antics, is really a very mature show. A man gets decapitated in the very first episode, people are murdered, or about to be murdered in almost every episode too. It's kind of a big deal in america about how much death a certain demographic can see. Airing it on Adult Swim was the only way that Detective Conan, (or Case Closed) was going to see the light of day in America.
