I just finished watching the Zeta Gundam Series from Bandai and I kind of felt that the ending left something to be desired. Can anyone tell me if there is more to the story than what has been put out or is there a follow up to this series?
Thanks.

There is a sequal series called ZZ Gundam (Double Zeta) and a movie called "Char's Counter Attack" (CCA). ZZ is not available in the U.S. yet, but CCA is. CCA wraps up the Char/Amuro rivalry. ZZ takes place between Zeta and CCA with a mostly new cast. Haman Karn plays a major role and Camille and Fa are supporting characters, but I'm not sure how big of a role they play. I'm under the impression Camille is mainly there for comic relief. At the end of Zeta spoiler[he was brain damaged, so he is very child like and Fa now takes care of him]

So CCA was after Zeta. I wasn't sure if these two were in the same time line or not. So I guess I have to wait for a domestic release of ZZ Gundam, whenever that is. Thanks for the info.

You can watch CCA without having any knowledge of ZZ.

I agree, Zeta's ending left a lot to be desired. The whole conflict between Haman and Char was not finished. The ending was kinda anti-climatic, the A.E.U.G ended up having the super weapon (Gripps colongy laser) in the final battle. I also thought there were many similarites between Zeta and the original. Kamille and Katz acted just like Amuro did in the original. The relationship between Katz and Sarah was just like Amuro and Lalah. Sarah even said the same thing to Katz, "If only I had met you before Scirrocco" which Lalah said to Amuro, "If only I had met you before Char".

Also I had a question about Kamilles Newtype abilities. When he fights Yazan and then later Scirrocco, his Newtype abilities seem to manifest around the Zeta Gundam, making his Gundam invincible to beam fire and his beam saber just ridiculously powerful, is this really happening or is Yazan and Scirrocco just imagining this from the enormous pressure Kamille is releasing?

Hopefully Bandai will license and release one of the unlicensed shows this year and it would be nice if it would be Double Zeta.

What exactly was left to be desired? As HitokiriShadow mentioned, Gundam ZZ continues the story, picking up immediately after the battle over Gryps 2 that took place during Zeta's climax. It features a new cast, with only a few returners from Zeta; Kamille and Fa make only occasional appearances, while other big names like Amuro and Char are completely absent. While Zeta ended with spoiler[the defeat of the Titans], ZZ picks up with AEUG's continuing battle against Haman Karn's Neo Zeon. So if you felt like the story wasn't yet complete because the question of the Axis forces wasn't fully addressed, then Gundam ZZ should fix that for you. If you had some other problem with Zeta's ending, what was it?

spoiler[Haman tried one last time to get Char to join her and he answered by blowing up the ship they were in. What was left to finish?]

I believe that actually happened. spoiler[You can see that the barrier is deflecting beams and the extra power of the beam saber is what actually destroys Yazan's mobile suit. There are clear physical effects of Kamille's power, so it doesn't seem like it was merely an illusion. Also, Yazan isn't a Newtype, so he wouldn't be able to feel Kamille's "pressure." He actually saw the light surrounding Zeta and observed it blocking his beams.]

EDIT: was in a rush earlier, used a spoiler tag where I meant to use a quote tag...

As far as Kamille's Newtype abilities. Yazan and Scirocco didn't imagine it. Kamille's abilities were amplified because of Zeta's Bio Sensor (which from what I remember 'harnesses the power of life' which can be tapped into by Newtypes). In ZZ spoiler[Judau has the same experience in the ZZ when he remembers Puru.] As far as Zeta's ending, I saw it as the Empire Strikes Back type ending. Everything kind of ends on a low note but at the same time it was a hell of a ride. Personally I was rather satisfied with the ending. spoiler[The Wave Rider to the gut was just awesome.] Also given ZZ's existence I didn't hold the abruptness against the series. Going back to Empire, it's like saying that it didn't finish. It's part of a saga, and a damn fine one if not the best in it.

Where Kamille and Fa are concerned in ZZ spoiler[they do come back but only for one particular arc. Fa basically sticks with Kamille to nurse him back to health in a hospital on Earth. During this time I believe Kamille is begining to recover although he's still pretty zapped thanks to Scirocco. Anyway his Newtype abilities sense Haman's plan to drop a colony on the Earth, and despite his warnings she still succeeds (I'm pretty sure that's how it went, if I missed a technicality or anything I'm sure others will correct me). After that Fa and Kamille just go on to live peacefully (Kamille's brain still isn't all together) and that's the last we see of those two.]

And yes Zeta did play out like the original. But for one thing, there was a 5-6 year hiatus between the original and Zeta, so I think that Tomino might have wanted a bit of a throwback to the original for the fans. Also Gundam seems to have a theme of history constantly repeating itself. Even though Zeta did take from the original (Gundam loves to steal from itself) it had great characters which were all well developed, was not weighed down by returning characters, and presented slick fresh MS designs which are still strikingly original to this day compared to many of the other mecha that populate the Gundam continuity. If you wanna see what Zeta could have been (in a negative way) watch Destiny, although I strongly advise not doing so.

Thanks for all the info. I'm pretty new to the whole gundam universe. This was the first one I've watched the whole series. I wasn't really disapointed with the ending. There was just some things left unresolved like Char and Haman. So much more was set up during the later part of the series that didn't get totally resolved it felt like there had to be more to it. I happy to know that it's all expanded on and resolved later on. I just have to find a fan sub or something to get the rest of the story. Thanks everyone.

I love the verry last shot in Zeta spoiler[where the 100 Shiki drifts by with the open cockpit door. It as a nice nod to the Gundam trilogy where the last shot was of Char's silloutte.] As for the Bio-Sensor aura doesn't spoiler[ Judo use it to power an energy depleated ZZ after the colony destroys Dublin? ] As for Kamiyu spoiler[ do they mention in the novels if he recovers or not? I think it was slightly ambiguos in the last episode of ZZ when you see him and Fa at the beach (if I remember it's been over 15 years since I saw it) but I recall that one could interpet the scene as him being cured. Then again ending of ZZ had such a happy ring to it.] I heard a rumor that Tomino originally wanted many of the CCA events to be the premise to ZZ, but opted to do something lighter and unrelated, so Char's plans had to be shelved until 0093. CCA in 0088 would have made a fine tv series. The Zeta PS1 game had many really neat original scenes. It's been many years since I played it, but I believe the Quattro campaign mode (you can play as Quatrro or Kamiyu) there were some scenes that take place before episode 1 and after episode 50.
