Now I know there are a few servral basics you can follow, such as, ask a friend(s) for recomendations, go by the studios, the genre, and year(s) of the anime.

Once you have seen alot of the animes that you realy want to, do you find yourself hunting for new ones? In what seems like a futile atempt to ubtain a good show that is worth you time? At that point do ever just randomly pick up an anime and say to yourself "I'm watching this for no reason other then there is nothing at this time I want to see"?

I was going through E-Bay not long ago and found the complete series of a show for probly 1/3 to 1/2 of what I would pay in a store. I thought to myself "if I can get it at this discount, why not?"

Also money can play a big factor in the anime you watch.

First...it's ebay. I would check 5 times to make sure it wasn't a bootleg, and even then still be wary.

Second...hmmm...I find series in numerous ways, yes. My first big watches and "main" list came from high rated shows that people recommended often on forums. Since then, I've begin to look on my own. I don't really go "Let's go through the anime list and see what looks good", but rather I just keep an eye out for anything that may be interesting. New fansubbed shows, anyone talking about new/cheaper boxsets or when I read something that just kind of interests me because it sounds different.

Lurking in forums I guess is my answer =P

I check the top 5 best and worst in the forums. Even then I read reviews and such.

Looking for works by the same person/company also helps, since you already know you like their style. For example, after seeing Fushigi Yuugi, I sought out all of Watase Yuu's other works (though they are mostly manga) and enjoyed them a lot.

Also just looking at the descriptions of series can be useful, seeing if the story interests you at all or not. Or finding out what people who have similar tastes to you like always works quite well, I get a lot of great anime reccommendations (though I stress that you should try to find someone who likes what you like, because everyone has different tastes).

I use many forms of finding anime. Here are my following methods the last being the best method for me:

1. Flipping channels on TV and bumping into anime (thats how it started)
2. Getting recommendation from a cousin (useless in my case)
3. Getting recommendation from a friend (also useless)
4. Reading Reviews (didn't like some of the reviews)
5. Seeing what anime was the cheapest at a store (hey it was ok at first)
6. Bootlegged (yeah I know its bad)
7. Picking random fansubbed anime (also bad)
8. Picking random anime anywhere in general (the best way)

So yeah thats basically how I picked the anime that i've seen.

"Believe it!"

I started watching anime from channel surfing (Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network). Then I started picking up the anime magazines and relying on them. The people at my workplace who watch anime are all male and strictly watch shoot-em-up, mecha movies and series. None of the stuff (romantic, cute, funny, etc.) that appealed to me. Going to a couple of conventions helped as well, since as those you really can watch free anime! Laughing Wink And being on this forum has really helped me as well. I've written down alot of titles that I would like to see when/if they arrive her in the States.
