So far i've never seen a manga that is better than One Piece, not Bleach nor Naruto could beat it, its just so good.

Sounds like you need to read more then just three manga then. Personally I thought Bleach was a hell of alot better then One Piece. |

Any specific reasons? I also feel that One Piece is head and shoulders above Bleach. One Piece has got the epic storylines, varied characters, unique art style, and the most heart. I like Bleach for the unique character designs but once that soul society arc got going it was really just fight after fight and powering up after powering up with new special move after new special move. It's a typical "cool" manga, with "cool" looking characters and "cool" moves, but in the end it has no real substance. |

One Piece felt way too childish to me. I found the art style to be just hideous, all the characters looked like their faces were melting. Whereas Bleach stands out more as a far more serious manga, I feel One Piece could have been a better manga if it weren't for all the weird fruit powers. To me One Piece just seemed to be another attempt to cash in on the "little kid wants to grow up to be the best [insert title here]" genre that's running rampant in other series like Naruto. |

I enjoy both titles, but personally I think Bleach is the stronger title.
The art style for One Piece is definately more suited to a younger audience (the characters are "funnier" looking) but that makes them all stand out too. I can dig the simple plot since every title boils down to a simple plot. With Bleach, the art style is - IMO - cooler. I like the pointyness and more serious look. Kubo manages to make his characters unique looking while looking semi-realistic. Bleach's plot is pretty simple; guy gets super ghost powers. But what sets them apart for me, and Bleach head and shoulders above One Piece, is the characters. Everyone in One Piece is one-dimensional. Why does Luffy want to be a pirate? Because he wants to! It's as simple as that! And he won't be diswayed by anything consarnit! There's no character growth. Even Roronoa, one of the more interesting characters, is still flat. With Bleach, the characters are alot more 3-D. Ichigo has good, deep reasons to do the Soul Reaper gig. Not only that, but his personality is far more interesting than. Luffy's straightforwardness. Ichigo's cast is also more interesting; like Ichigo they're flawed, and those flaws are what drives them. |

Once again I'd disagree, Ichigo's reasoning and personality is nothing we've seen before in other manga titles. He wants to protect his family, save rukia because she changed his life, yada yada, it's very simple and typical, but the problem is, the mangaka tries to make that so serious, while in One Piece, Luffy's straightforward dream of wanting to become the pirate king is treated lightheartedly and not so rediculously angst like as in Bleach that it becomes corny and pretentious. As for the other characters, they are interesting because they are flawed? We've seen that a million times elsewhere and it's not very convincing. The crew of One Piece all have very distinct personalities like other manga characters and tend to not stray too far from them but I feel the difference is that the crew in One Piece gels together much better and their characters work off each other much better than Ichigo and his friends. In One Piece the crew is almost like a family, in the relationship sense. Robin, the oldest member, can be seen as having the motherly role of the crew. She doesn't get too involved with the others crazy antics and tends to watch over them from a distance always with a heartwarming smile. Nami has the role of the older sister, the one that gets annoyed with the others and smacks them when they do something stupid or embarassing but loves them no matter what. Chopper is like the youngest brother who always looks up to his siblings and this is evident in One Piece the way he always admires the strength of Luffy and Zoro or the tales of Ussop because of how gullible he is, and also the fact that he is the youngest age wise. Sanji is like the cool older brother, the rebel who always appears at just the right moment and knows how to make an entrance. Zoro could be seen as the Father or the oldest brother, the one who always watches over everyone and wants to protect them, this is why he's always seen training. And Ussop can be seen as that sibling you always seem to get along with or even the best friend role (in relation to Luffy), it feels like you could always get along with this person no matter what. Finally Luffy is actually the most boring of all the crew in terms of personality, he's a very "I'll do whatever it takes to get what I want" kind of guy and it's been done before but Luffy's utter hopelessness with doing anything but fighting gives him a likeable personality because of his search for crew members and his dependence on them since he knows he won't be able to achieve his goals alone. Apart from their singular roles there's all the inter-crew relationships that make up most of the great humor that One Piece has. And since most of the humor is character related instead of gag related, Oda Sensei never has a problem finding humor, a huge part of One Piece. Luffy-Chopper-Ussop are always the happiest bunch, dancing around, making jokes, and always having a good time. I love the way they hold each other shoulder to shoulder and do that sort of Russian dance even when Chopper's feet can't even reach the ground . Nami-Sanji is one of the more obvious ones that's very straightforward with Sanji's goofy dreams and pick-up lines together with Nami's obliviousness or just being dismissive in a friendly way. Zoro-Luffy This one can be hard to spot but it's very subtle with the fact that Luffy has an unwavering trust of Zoro. Zoro is definitely the person Luffy trusts the most over everyone else. Zoro-Sanji The bickering and fighting between these two is another great set of interactions that goes on throughout One Piece between "Algae head" and "Dart board face". Ussop-Chopper Ussop is always telling tall tales to Chopper, who somehow seems to believe every one of them. All these things together make One Piece so much more heartwarming and genuine. Bleach seems to me to be so (no pun intended) "hollow" and soulless, almost riding the coattails of what makes a successful shonen title, but with an art style that anyone can enjoy, clean and stylish. The two links below are pictures to a calendar freebie that came with an issue of Shonen Jump in Japan. http://img355.imageshack.us/my.php?image=f018ny.jpg This One Piece color illustration is very similar to almost all of One Piece's color spreadsheets, the crew all smiling and having a great time in different settings. http://img355.imageshack.us/my.php?image=u012rh.jpg The Bleach color spread is also very similar to almost all Bleach color spreads. A number of different characters standing around facing directions and giving off a "cool" stare. Not that there's anything wrong with that but then it doesn't seem to give off any sort of originality that would set Bleach apart from other titles. I agree that Bleach's art style is "cooler", but then again Bleach tries to be cool while One Piece doesn't. The art style in One Piece does look very much for kids, but its appropriate as the average age of Luffy's crew is very young, making the respective art styles of each manga fit perfectly. But then that shouldn't be an issue in deciding the merit of which one should be more acclaimed. I feel like the art style, the inclusion of "shinigamis" (in the sense that alot of Naruto's attractiveness is its inclusion of ninjas) and sword fights with powers that grow stronger are the only things carrying people's preference for Bleach. The story and characters are very standard and typical, more flash than substance. |

for pure shonen-ness
i rank: 1. one piece 2. naruto 3. bleach my one caveat is i have read scanlations of 1 and 2, so i have seen how great the stories get later on. with one piece surprising me over and over, it's my fav. i however do collect bleach. i will start one peice but i am not sure if i want to collect naruto. battle manga to me is only good for me the first read-thru. one piece is so deep (action/adventure/comedy/drama) that i would want to read it again. |

I can seem to only remember one distinct plot twist which is the whole spoiler[aizen being actually alive thing] which I felt was the saving grace of that arc and then the spoiler[(not really a twist) but the three of them beaming up] instead of ending the arc with yet another fight was pretty good. |

I also am a big fan of One Piece. Not that the other two titles aren't enjoyable; both Naruto and Bleach have their merits, but like milcor1 already explained, part of One Piece's appeal lies in the goofy charm. There's just so much energy within the pages that it practically explodes. Silly? Yes, but also damn fun.
I enjoy it over Bleach and Naruto is, like you said, it's less serious than those titles. Most of the stuff I read lies on the older end of the spectrum. Let's face it, if I want to read a "serious" or "dramatic" manga, most of the time I'm going to find a better read in an adult manga rather than a shonen series (there are of course exceptions like Barefoot Gen). I like diffrent elements of Bleach like the main character, the art and some of the humor. Hell, even some of the drama is quite well done. But at the end of the day, it still exists within the borders of the borders of the shonen genre with all the cliches associated with Jump titles. One Piece also follows most of these cliches, but the big diffrence is the fact that it never takes itself too seriously and never loses any charm or energy, a rare feat in a long series.[/quote] |

I always have a really hard time deciding which is my favourite shounen manga... But when it comes to Bleach and One Piece, I just cant. They both exceed in so different ways I almost find it hard to believe they're in the same genre
