Hey I've bought a few anime scrolls in the past... But I've been wondering... who does the scrolls benefit when we buy them? I mean does the anime company itself get the profit or are most of these scrolls bootleg knockoffs or what? because.. I've bought a few from like swap meetish like people and such... and the prices/quality ranges... (And hwo much should i spend on each scroll?)

I've never bought any scrolls (I'm trying to keep the otaku-ness from infecting the walls of my house, with mixed success), but I have read that bootlegs & knock-offs are out there.
Check these sites, as well as other data in the "How to Spot a Bootleg" post in the Retail Forum.

The second link went nowhere for me. The first link said this...
Most of their text is so poorly written that this anti-piracy page almost looks like a pirate version of a real anti-piracy website. Go and have a look if you don't believe me. Nobody who understands English should write like that. A lazy forum post is one thing, but a public webpage should be proofread before being published. |

A real scroll imported from japan will likely run about 15-20 dollar. A bootleg one that you pick up from chinatown is around 10 dollar a piece. It's really hard to tell, but check out the colors and the label. As for who benefit, if you bought the legit one, then it should benefit the license holder and the scroll's producer for developing it. |
