HOW is "Legend of the Blue Wolves" Rental Shelf material?!? Reading your review it sounds AWFUL, the review sounds at best equal to, and possibly WORSE than the reviews for "Girls Bravo DVD 2" and "Avenger - Complete Collection" both of which were perishable. I'm not saying either of those deserved to be higher, but how is LotBW not LOWER it sounds like an awful show. I dunno, maybe it's just that I'm not in ANY of the "possible" target audiences but it just sounds like a show with little true redeeming value. You say:
it can really only be enjoyed by tough women or pansy men, a niche within an already niche yaoi audience.
With that as a suggestion, I don't see how it's rent worthy.

Tough women and pansy men are at least SOMEWHAT of an audience. These people do exist.
There is no audience that would (according to Bamboo) enjoy either Avenger or Girls Bravo.
Gay fat man rape... Hmm, yep, Nightshift Nurses is still far more odious.

I'd say that this is why. It is hentai (it's done by Kitty), but if it has an actual storyline than that'd be something. I've always considered hentai to be just porn. While it tells a story, there's hardly any plot. Well, perhaps for this hentai there actually is a servicable plot.
I'm actually surprised that there are funny quotes on condiments. Surprised because I thought that this would be a bad idea after the Quote on the Starbucks Cup Incident down Baylor way. One person's funny is another person's hurt and, eventually, a lawsuit.

AHHHH! they just won't go away! they're everywhere!!!! #$*&% *mumbles: those creepy fuccons...*
Now that I have that off my chest, I noticed that the shelf life reviews no longer have the "tastes like" blurb. Tis a shame, I always found that really entertaining. Maybe it'll come back when those #$@* fuccons leave, eh?

Seeing that sample episode of the Fuccons, I find it to be about as funny/unfunny as Tokyo Breakfast.

The Fuccons is not anime, and therefore should not be reviewed.

The Fuccons is not anime? Could have fooled me.
I think that it was reviewed because of the contest ANN is running. I agree with Bamboo's assessment. Those mannequins give me the willies. I really do not like seeing them all over the front page, but I'll just take comfort in the fact that it will all be over soon.

That Moby Dick reads like it smelled like last week's fish dinner. Surely that could have been parishable?

ZOMG sauce ploz.
Yeah, I fall in the party of "mannequins are creepy kill it with fire." I'm thinking I'm going to have to pick up Doki Doki, because those kinds of shows are always moderate fun for me to watch.

ANN covers a wide range of related things though so it's definitely fair game. Technically you could say they should never review manga because their name is "Anime" News Network.
If there's a reason to not review Fuccons, it's because Tempest indicated that there wouldn't be one due to the advertising they did last week. But this column isn't exactly reviews but more an opinion piece and Bamboo gets to cover a range of things that aren't done elsewhere, like the hentai (many of which have plot AND story contrary to popular opinion!).
I'm hoping that as more live action manga/anime based flicks come out and over that she'll do those. I want to read her opinion on the live action Initial D movie...

Justin,
This is definitely nowhere near the Nurses. The animation is really good, the mecha action is actually interesting and the story keeps your attention. On top of that you have men boffing each other...Okay, so it does have a problem with a target audience. It IS one of the earliest ventures into the Yaoi genre, and fat man rape isn't the only sex scene. There's also a lot of beefcake for those that want it. I think a lot of people will want this in their collection.
As for me...I'm going into my good little zone with the Zatoichi TV series that we're now releasing.

Actually, although Bamboo didn't bring the angle up, IMHO, Legend of the Blue Wolves rocks a) as fodder for a drinking game and b)...bizarrely enough, precisely because the two main characters *don't* just look like girls with extra boy parts attached, it actually holds its own as gay porn a lot better than many of the other yaoi titles out there do. It may not be your (...or most people's) cup of tea, but it's not actually *bad* per se, either.

I agree with Bamboo and the rest when it comes to Mannequins. They really are creepy. Right up there with psycho clowns.
As for "The Legend of the Blue Wolves", it seems to me as though there would be a sizable audience for it. With yaoi being as popular as it is, this could do very well . Especially if it has a servicable plot.
Don't let the genre fool you, sometimes hentai can be entertaining and have a plot.

Okay, we get it.
To wit, pretty much every hentai ever made has a plot and a story.
Plot = sequence of events.
Story = What the narrative is about.
Here's an example:
The "Story" of "Sex-Crazed Anime Bimbos vol. 23" is that Kira, sex-crazed anime bimbo, needs to have sex with 10 people or she'll die within 24 hours.
The "Plot" of "Sex-Crazed Anime Bimbos vol. 23" is that Kira finds out from the doctor that she needs to have sex with 10 people in the next 24 hours, so then she has sex with the doctor, etc etc etc.
Saying that hentai has "plot and story!" is a very obvious fact. Saying that they have well-written, believable, quality storylines and competent, logical plotting is another matter entirely.
I'm sure many of you will rush to point out just how great and deep and incredible hentai storylines are, though.

While they aren't exactly great literature, we are just talking about cartoons here. Anime isn't exactly deep and incredible across the board either.
Unlike most mainstream anime shows though, since these tend to be shorter and under less constraints, the things that can happen in terms of plot and story can be far different than regular shows. After all, anything that airs on TV or most OVAs tend to have to adhere to either a manga storyline that exists or merchandising plans.
You and I have had this discussion before anyway so I'm not going to get deep into it again. There simply continues to exist that, in my mind, very stupid mentality of violence = ok! and sex = bad bad disgusting disturbing.
