I was just wondering if anyone knew of any great anime's that are worth buying. I am looking for anime's that have action, maybe some darkness, and a good/great plot.

I greatly enjoyed:

Last Exile
Berserk
Vampire Hunter D
Hellsing
Lunar Legend Tsukihime
Gungrave
NGE
.Hack//Sign
Elven Lied
Ninja Scroll
All of miyazaki's films

As you can see i'm more of a shounen person.
any recommendation would be great, thanks

GP

PS. please include why you think these shows are good/great, thanks Very Happy

I would recommend Gantz. It is a very mature, very violent anime. I don't want to go too deep into the story because its hard to explain without giving anything away. The story is very interesting with nice plot twists and interesting characters.

hey thanks. i'll check those out. BTW im kinda lookin for shows that are more mature and phsycological.than gundamish kinda things, but no worries.

Not very easy to find more mature and psychological than Gundam as far as action/darkness/plot animes are concerned... except Wing Wink

If you don't mind old animation, the Gundam Movie Trilogy is the way to go in order to begin. The 08th MS Team is more action-oriented and less 'psychological' but illustrates well the same era of the UC timeline with less dated graphics and animation. With 0083: Stardust Memories, things get sharper on all aspects and it's a nice introduction to the true sequel of MS Gundam, the all-time classic Zeta Gundam which is very dark, provides nice action scenes despite its age and has a pretty cool plot. The movie which ends the competition between the two main characters of this period of the UC timeline, Char's Counter-Attack, is considered as a classic of the genre too but is a bit too much short to be as much interesting as the previous shows IMO, still a great animation with very nice designs and action scenes as well as an interesting and unusual plot. For a production which makes a heavy emphasis on looks and atmosphere with great action scenes, check out the Gundam F-91 movie although it's not really a recomendation for a newcomer to the Gundam franchise because of some knowledges this movie requires to get everything (such as the cybernewtype concept from Zeta Gundam, among other details...) but the story having been drastically cut in comparison to the TV series that this project was supposed to be at the beginning, it isn't hard to follow the surface of the scenario

Since you seem to like samourais stories, I can recommend Dagger of Kamui: it's rather old but provides an interesting plot with some nice twists and very good actions scenes. But I'm not expert in this category... Razz
