I really liked this series. I even gave it an excellent rating. However, the ending seemed rushed. Maybe it's just me, but at only 24 episodes, I can't help but wonder if the show was cut short due to poor ratings? Just wondering...

The anime caught up with the manga so the anime producers made up the final episodes on their own. Check out the manga much better. |

I truly enjoyed Chrono Crusade from start to finish, although I was very disappointed with the Chrono/Aion "battle" in Episode 23. Definitely one of Studio Gonzo's best titles.
Well, the show did air at 2 AM in Japan, but I believe that it was agreed upon between Gonzo and Daisuke Moriyama to set the anime at 24 episodes. Moriyama didn't participate in the production of the anime since at the time, he was working on the climax to the Chrono manga so he left the direction of the anime entirely up to Gonzo, which might include how many episodes the anime will contain. If you have Volume 2 of the Chrono manga from ADV Manga, make sure you read the interview with Moriyama at the end of the book. 
I also thought that the series had a satisfying conclusion, albeit a sad ending. Although I didn't think it was as emotionally charged as the ending to SaiKano (another powerful Gonzo series), I did shed some tears spoiler[when Rosette and Chrono expired]. |

Thanks for the info. I too am satisfied with the ending. Very bittersweet. Regarding what you said about Saikano. I own it too and I cried buckets. Not just at the end, but also from spoiler[Akimi's death-bed confession of love] |

To follow up on what I mentioned earlier, Chrono aired on Mondays at 2 AM on Fuji TV in Japan. Despite its late time slot, 2% of the Japanese viewing public stayed up to watch it, so there was somewhat of a cult following of the series (partly due to the popularity of the manga and partly due to its Gonzo connection). |

This hymn is a favorite of mine. I identified the tune as "Bryn Calfaria", composed by William Owen, 1814-1893. I haven't positively identified the lyrics which were used. Unfortunately I already returned the rental DVD, so I have only my memory to go on. This tune has a meter of 8 7 8 7 4 4 4 7 7. I recall that the 4 4 4 line included the words "Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!". Also, I recall the word splendor. Beyond this, I cannot recall. It is common to use different sets of lyrics with a particular tune, thus adapting the hymn for different purposes, such as different litergical seasons. Obviously, the meter of the lyrics must fit the meter of the tune. There are many sets of lyrics which have been set to "Bryn Calfaria". I've found a set of lyrics which fit my recollections (listed above.) I don't know if these are the correct lyrics. I'll leave it to someone else to determine it. From http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/l/l259.html is "Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendor", written by George Hugh Bourne, 1874.

Azmaria's Japanese VA, Saeko Chiba, also did all her singing. She also sang the beautiful closing theme. She has a voice like an angel, don't you think?

Jessica Boone (Azmaria's English VA) mentioned in her fan club that she wished that she could sing like Saeko Chiba. As extrodinarily talented as Jessica is (and as much as I admire her both as an actress and as a person), she would never match Chiba's voice. Chiba definitely has the voice of the angels. |

Everyone seems to like the ending to Chrono Crusade but I didn't really like it.
Hugespoiler[I mean the super evil bad guy who seems to love killing and making everyone miserable survives and all the good people die pathetically? What was the point of the entire series; nothing was accomplished at all in the entire struggle. None of the attempts were successful: Chrono saving Rosette, Rosette saving Chrono, Aion getting stopped/defeated, Rosette finding and being happy with Joshua like in the past (instead he forgets about her lol), Satella finding and being happy with her older sister (instead she forgets about her except for like the last millisecond when she DIES...err they BOTH die). I do think there was a possibility for Chrono to survive because they didn't show a grave for him and also Aion survived even though he got "killed" and Chrono is a demon like Aion. Also, they're just suggesting more misery is going to come with the Great Depression and WWII. And if Rosette was ok with dying because it was for Chrono's sake (which she kept saying during the series that it was fine to shorten her life) m/b it's ok but she didn't even want to die at the end, which makes everything she said in the series a lie. Anyway, my biggest gripe is that it's not really concluded since Aion is alive feelin great whereas as far as we know Rosette is a skeleton by 1981 and Chrono is dead, too. Also, Remington is a vagabond hobo now.] |
