You know for the longest time I kept hearing the Vita being used as the butt of many jokes, but this certainly doesn't suggest that those jokes were particularly fair at all.

There are quite good number of good titles for the vita.
I recently finished Tales of Hearts. I am now playing Legend of Heroes Zero no Kiseki Evolution. (In Japanese and Imports, I Know, not many will try them) for the west I am anticipating Ys: Memories of Celceta, and currently Dragons Crown and Muramasa Rebirth can be enjoyed. The older Soul Sacrifice seem to be relatively popular among gamers.
From Falcom, which I love, The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki is also coming for vita and with full voice for the main story, probably will get it as well.
There is also Mind Zero for the vita. Hopefully it gets translated.
So at least for us jrpg lovers, I think the Vita is and will provide plenty of games for us.
The stupid vita = no games, is mainly coming from the western audience that is probably dying for more generic FPS. Thou I reckon, there are jrpgs that are being denied from getting localized sadly like those tales games.
Also as can be seen viata sales are good in Japan, and vita version of ps3 games are doing good. Theres plenty of reasons why someone would rather get the portable version rather than the console one, this will only help the Vita once the PS4 its released, since theres really no noticeable downgrade from doing so.
I have bought my (japanese) cosmic red vita a few months ago and not regretting it one bit.

Vita is to the west as 360 is to Japan.

Vita looks like its well on its way to being a very successful console in Japan that is overlooked in the West... just like the PSP.

There were almost 5,000 Vitas sold this week in the US whereas there were 275 Xbox 360 units sold this week for Japan.
Or in other terms, there have been 1.3 million Vitas sold in the States whereas there have been 1.7 million Vitas sold in Japan. There have been 40 million Xbox 360 units sold in the US compared to 1.6 million units sold in Japan. It doesn't even come close. The Vita sales ratio between USA:Japan is actually extremely close to the 3DS.

I don't own a Vita because I've invested a lot into my Nintendo DS Lite/Game Boy Advance collection and don't really see the need to upgrade. However, with all the RPG titles available for it I wouldn't mind picking up one to be honest, but I doubt that would happen because I seldom buy new hardware when I have older hardware that still functions.
One of my all-time favorite consoles was a success in Japan but a failure in the United States, by the way. Anyone else here play Sega Saturn games?

First off, may I ask? Vita is a 1.5-yr-old system while 360 is an 8-yr-old system. What's units sold for the week when the 360 was a 1.5-yr-old system? Second, we were talking about the West, not just the US. What's the per-capita rate for the 360 in the West when it was a 1.5-yr-old system?

The region with the most Vita sales is Europe, so I'm not sure what you're even trying to say here.
As far as the 360 being a 8-yr-old system, it still sold 37,000 units in the USA last week, compared to 275 units in Japan. So you're not very smart it seems. There is no comparison.

Yeah, everyone who was saying that Nintendo is failing as a console maker is kind of wrong. Those 3DS sales are impressive.

Nobody is saying Nintendo is failing at handheld gaming. That has been their schtick since the Gameboy.

You still don't get it. In Japan. You can't use today's 360 sales in relation to the sales of Vita who is just 1.5 yrs old. You gotta use the sales of 360 when it was also just 1.5 yrs old in Japan.
Meanwhile, the West population (Americas and Europe) is much much bigger than Japan, that's why it has to be per-capita.
