Certain things seem to be true about almost all Otaku. I was wondering things you guys think are almost universally true about Otaku.
Almost all Otaku are big Star Wars and/or Star Trek fans and of those a lot of fans know a disturbing amount of useless information about at least one of the two. |

There are always exceptions
I can stand watching it and its ok (next generation I watched alot) but I don't like getting into it like some people do. The ideas are good but it just doesn't enthrall me. There's also alot of Otaku who are big DBZ fans. But I stand about the same as above on that subject ![]() gamers= true could you associate them with being a mathimatical mind or more of an artistic mind? |

I'm a freak of nature that doesn't fall into any "fangirl" or "otaku" mold.
Apparently, I've been deluding myself all these years into thinking I'm an otaku. I'm lost. Hm... maybe we can characterized otaku as people who openly admit to being anime fans, and spend at least 5+ hours a week doing something anime related? Whether watching it, or writing about it, or something? |

*giggle* If it makes you feel any better, so out of the three 'categories' listed, I don't really fit either.... Star Trek/Star Wars fan: eh, the only reason I watch ST stuff is either a) my husband wants to watch it or b) I know someone on the show..... Gamer: Not really. I'll play a game here or there, but nothing to write home about. My husband, however, is a gamer. Single: As you can tell from the other two categories, nope. I'm married with a child. |

Most diehard fans I've met...
... say that anime in Japan is "better" than anime in America. Which comes in two different flavors: 1) In Japan, anime on TV is better there because it's 'uncensored'[1], or because it comes out so much faster[2], etc. 2) In Japan, they have better DVDs[3]. And, naturally, neither is true. [1] ...except that it is censored; you regularly hear about DVD releases with additional scenes that didn't air on TV.. such as the final episode of Excel Saga. Didn't Arjuna also get an extended release from what was on JP TV? And, naturally, some DVDs come out, and then additional footage is later animated for them, so they make a new release of them... (*thinks of Disney's Beauty and the Beast*) [2] It comes out at the same pace in America, 1 DVD per month or two. The only difference is you see 1 episode on TV per week instead of 4-5 like we do.. so it doesn't feel like it's as long a timeperiod between viewing the series and buying it. [3] Japanese DVDs are more expensive, have fewer episodes per disc, and rarely have any 'extras' (and when they do are typically insignificant things like the AzuDai DVDs where the final disc has all the TV eyecatches). Plus the R1 DVDs typically are subtitled AND dubbed into English, and they retain their Japanese audio track... The only real difference is models and stickers and such that aren't included in the American releases.. except that in some cases, we STILL get those sortsa things. |

I can't help but assume that most otaku know the meaning of life. 42 by the way and if you don't get this read the Hitchhikers Trilogy ASAP, chances are if your an otaku you'll like these books.

Umm...arrogance as a character trait? "*I* know best, where most others do not..."
Well, that's the impression I get a lot from otakus. Even if I watch anime/read manga for the next 50 years I'd still never call myself an otaku. |
