Do you think it would be good or bad idea if FMA was turned into a franchise?

I personally think it would be a good idea, It has a great plot with the possablity to spawn great and interesting stories

I disagree. The comedy between Kaname and Sousuke can only go so far. After a while, seeing Sagara get smacked by Chidori's paper fan wouldn't be funny anymore. And there'd probably be imbalances between the action and comedy. I think that after 2nd Raid, it should be put to rest, anime-wise (meaning they can make more manga and maybe some games, but no more anime). I do wish they'd make a movie, though.

I think he was asking about Full Metal Alchemist

Would it be cool? I guess it would. Would it happen? Highly unlikely. Once a series is over, it's over and rarely does some kind of sequel or side story ever occur. Then again, the story is mainly about the Brothers Elric's quest to restore their bodies. All of the other characters are in there for comedic or dramatic effect. Whether or not their past stories are interesting is irrelevent. If they helped the Brothers Elric's in either obtaining the philosopher's stone or by helping them mature, their purpose has pretty much been fullfilled.

I agree. Well you could extend a series after it's over, but in the case in fullmetal alchemist a lot of things are foreshadowed and planned ahead.. and i don't think it would flow well...

but it would be cool if they animated another version that has the plots in the manga

Gonna have to disagree with you there. First for those of you who have finished this series you will know that (don't read unless you have seen all of FMA) spoiler[The final epsiode obviously leads into a movie, well it doesn't have to necessarily but to tie loose ends, and to make more money it will.] Secondly I don't think that creating another year (Season 3) of Full Metal alchemist is very wise. I mean it not like the anime didn't completely cover the manga and which point it would make sense to go back and to finish those story A la Kenshin, soon to Hellsing, dare I say Berserk. All that would happen it they made a third season would be a bunch of stupid filler, and it would end up like the Meiji Era Cancelled. Although you bring up an interesting idea I just don't want to see it happen, for reason only I enjoy the last scene of the anime, even if it doesn't match the manga. There just something aboutspoiler[two brothers with outstretch hands reaching for one another knowing that they can find one another in the end. Regardless if we that journey or not.]Well that it for now. Till next time,

You misunderstand me, when i say franchise i mean something along the lines of Gundam. I'm not talking about extending the show because i do agree with you that it ended off great. All i'm saying is that it would be really cool if they made a another show that dealt with Alchemy with new characters and so on. I think FMA story is very orginal and it would be a shame not to do more with it, after all if gundam can do it why can't FMA?

5 videogames, a manga, and a movie... and you're concerned about it BECOMING a franchise? the only thing missing is an card game, and i'm sure that's on the horizon.

Well also you forgot about all the rest of the merchandise from the watches to t-shirt, Stickers, Posters, etc. etc. etc.

Ahh i see what your saying, and once again I am going to have to disagree with you on that, I mean the whole idea of Alchemist is a cool one, but when you look at from a historical aspect it's nothing like Full Metal Alchemist where they are making/fixing things in a few moments. Real Alchemy requires of time of energy and trial and error. Full Metal Alchemist is an extremely unique show with how they handle this, and to be honesty I wouldn't want a bunch of clones trying to copy this formula. Whereas it works with Samurai/Ninja because it's a very basic idea and can be built, such being an Alchemist is an extremely complex position that require years of training within biology, chemistry, physics etc etc.
Till next time,

Only thing is that there already is a trading card game for FMA. Viz even included a promotional card in with the third volume of FMA manga in the US.

Your all misunderstanding the topic. He means franchise by saying other anime series with the Full Metal Alchemist name only about someone different with a different story. Something along the lines of

Full Metal Alchemest: The Hughes Report
or
Full Metal Alchemist: Ishbal
or
Full Metal Alchemist: Winry Rockbell: Great Automail Warrior.

crap like that. I just don't see something like that happening as I said in the earlier post. Besides, there is Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic, and Full Metal Yakuza (live action movie). If anything, Full Metal Alchemist is already in the Full Metal franchise.

Well FMA was adapted from the manga. So in order to use the FMA name, they would have to take it Hiromu Arakawa and she's still working on the manga at this point.

A spinoff of FMA? Nah, I don't think that will work, the studio team will want to work on a new series with new idea.

And if they make a new series about Nobuhiro Watsuki's Armor Alchemist, than you have another alchemist series. Or it can be another series about FMA, it doesn't need the FMA name though.
