I realize the manga has not been licensed and there do not seem to be any plans whatsoever. I was wondering how it was coming along, if it isn't already done. I've read various things here and there (much of it pointing to it still being a work in progress) but none of the information is very solid by itself and could very well be dated.
Also, does anyone know how big of a difference there is between the manga and the anime (no spoilers though, please  )? I've been getting the feeling that the anime really slipped away from the manga at some point story-wise, or cut out a very, very large portion of it due length constraints and what have you. It's not abnormal for an anime adaption to do that, but I'd like to know just in case.

I have some of the mangas since I was able to get them off of Ebay for quite cheap. Although I couldn't understand it, many of the scenes were recognizable from the anime. It looked very similar to me, just with more detail and some stuff that wasn't in the anime, which is typical for a manga. Story wise, it seemed pretty similar though, I didn't notice any huge gaps in the story, some of the events were in a different order though. I don't have all of them though so I can't be 100% sure about that. I'm guessing there are scanlations some where, but I'm too lazy too look (don't know too much about scanlations though so I could be wrong). I don't know how many books there are or anything about that so I can't help you there.

Yeah, I wouldn't find it surprising if the anime was fairly true to the manga in at least some places, despite me always being skeptical. What worries me more is what happens later in the anime. I haven't read the manga at all (which is why I'm asking for help, hehe), so I can't say just how accurate or inaccurate the anime is, but something just felt very off when Hare nochi Guu Deluxe and Final rolled around.
From what I've read here and there though (I think some of the information came from comments on news articles here...), supposedly there are at least 10 volumes, maybe more. As for scanlations, I've seen it started and picked up by various groups, but I don't think the combined work of all those groups has made it past the first volume. =\ Thanks for your help so far, it's very much appreciated.
