I've really enjoyed Ragnarok up through Volume 7 so far. While the art seemed a little cluttered at times, I really enjoyed the abundance of different characters. But I'm having a problem with Volume 8. All of the sudden it just seems like a gag manga, or manwha in this case. I should've known I was in trouble when Chaos and company board an airship manned (moosed?) by walking talking moose! It made me have nightmares about Bullwinkle. While Rocky the Squirrel did not show up you have a trio of hapless warrior women called the Rangers of Asgard, showing up, bursting out of barrels, with no connection whatsoever to the preceding 7 volumes, and proceed to destroy the airship almost singlehandedly. They seemed smack out of a Nuku Nuku anime. And they almost kill off one of the main characters!

The new costume designs for all of the characters looked
like pantsuits out of the Golden Girls and Skurai, a once fearsome Crow clone, now looks like the lead singer from the Cure. What happened to this book?????!!!!! And why does Loki's dialogue now in squares instead of usual dialogue bubbles? Is he an android or something? Wink I'm just very disappointed in this new(old) direction. It just seems like its injecting too much humor into what is essentially an adventure drama. It reminded me of Alice 19th, where characters are killed and a tear is shed, and then the next page people are laughing in superdeformed mode and hitting each other over the head. I just don't get it.

I hope this is just a one volume direction for Lee, or I might not finish the series, at least the 10 volumes currently out.

Well, I DO agree that Skurai got short-changed in the costume department, I liked volume eight and I think it served it's purpose. After the previous seven volumes built and built up to a huge battle (which it did), volume eight was a chance for the characters and writer to catch their breath. After all, you can only keep a story serious for so long before it seems TOO dramatic.

But volumes nine and ten do start to move back towards the more serious plot lines.

Quite truthfully, this is a technique used by alot of writers. Start off happy and work towards serious, then restart.
