I'm assuming we're getting a new interpretation of the Ghost of the Shell franchise? I'm up for it! At least it'll give Manga Entertainment something to license.

I'm approaching this with cautious optimism. Considering that Kise hasn't had many (if any) directorial efforts, and Ubukata has written garbage like Heroic Age. It'll be a shocker if this 'reinterpretation' of GITS is going to follow the light-hearted tone of the manga.

I would be warming up to the project more if they announce Kazunori Ito as writing some of the scripts, or even Oshii/Kamiyama. Who knows, perhaps this interpretation will closely match the tone and style of the first film, something the series and second film lack.

Just don't change the voice cast, and I'll stay sane.

Edit: Hopefully they won't follow current trends in anime and add some moe character. (Or do what the series does best, and have Motoko dress provocatively without anyone commenting on it, or the clothes itself, affecting her performance. ) Wink

I've been clammering for more GiTS but i'm not sure how to feel about this. I enjoyed Mardock Scramble but it was no GiTS and Ubukata other works don't exactly inspire confidence. Neither does the Director.

Does Manga even CARE about GiTS anymore? The old DVDs probably suck in terms of video quality and are probably also OOP, and they haven't even released Blurays of it here. I bet someone else will snatch this up because they haven't done anything worthwhile with GiTS for years.

Not really. They look quite good actually. Wink

Oh man, I hope they moe the HELL out of it. I mean, little girls, and panty-shots and EVERYTHING. Imagine the butt-hurt. The tears of the older GitS fans would run like a river, and taste delicious.

So... two revivals this year, Gits and SM. Could be awesome.

I like Tow Ubukata,he can write pretty good stuff like Mardock Scramble and Chevalier d'Eon.Although the director didn't direct anything,he is pretty experienced person. He was one of the foundation members of Production IG if I am not mistaken,so I am not expecting big problems with that aspect.

Hey, Heroic Age was actually surprisingly good. It's the director Kazuchika Kise whom I'm worried about. He's extremely experienced at being an animation director but he's never sat in the chief director's chair before except for a single short twenty-four-minute movie. Ghost in the Shell Arise should look good and have awesome action sequences, but I am quite nervous as to whether this guy can successfully direct.

I stand corrected.

But SAC is from the now dead Bandai, which means it may never be rescued here unless Manga decides in a million years to get it.

Edit: The DVD of the original GiTS seems to be OOP because Amazon only has 6 left in stock. Manga needs to quit sitting on the license if they aren't printing more.

The only successful animator turned director I can think of, is Hiroyuki Okiura. Here's hoping IG can strike-out again with Kise. Very Happy

Man, a moe loli show set in the GiTS universe would be awesome.

Actually, it could be really good if done well. From this team? Doubtful. Very Happy

Hmm, he's directed A Letter to Momo, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door and the very impressive Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade. Yep, I have to agree; that's a very strong trio of movies.

He only directed the opening credits sequence of the Bebop movie though right? Anyway he is a good one.

Could people also stop metioning GiTS and "moe" in the same sentences please because that sh*t needs to be as far away from GiTS as humanly possible. No offense. I can't take all the philosophical bullshit seriously if "moeblobs" are spouting it.

I only got into GiTS a couple of years ago but I'm looking forward to this. It is a bit worrying that the director is inexperienced but I think he should be given a shot. Really curious who'll pick it up though. As others have said Manga hasn't done much of anything lately so...
