Thank god. Now fans will no longer get rallied up into swarming throngs of hysteria when X-play or EGM give anime games a bad rating, claiming that the reviewers are anime hating retards. ANN is telling you it sucks. Deal with it.

As an FMA fan, I can tell you that the games are travesties to the series. Even the dub was better than that crap.

I don't care if the game really does suck. G4's reviewers (especially that bastard Adam Sessler) are still anime-hating retards who adore HalfLife and racing games. Bunch of losers, that's what they are (and Morgan Webb is NOT hot).
Obviously the dub was better. And anime-based games usually tend to suck. Ever play the GitS game? Terrible? And the Gundam games are no better. |

Except they didn't say it "sucks". It got a "C+", which isn't exactly great, but nowhere in the review did it say that it was horrible, it just "suffers from an inconsistent storyline". There's nothing worse than gamers who put everything into the two catagories of "awesome" and "sucks". There are degrees in between.

Don't take my word for it as I haven't played this one (yet), but from what I've heard, the game(s) follows the manga storyline moreso than the anime. In the manga version, certain incidents that happen in the past in the anime actually happen in the present, the Elrics originally encounter Scar in East City, etc. So it's quite possible that these inconsistant story points you're talking about are simply using the manga version, or meshing both. but in general, please do not forget that there IS a version of FMA that is different from the anime out there.
Also, as for gameplay itself... well, games like this aren't supposed to be groundbreaking. If I want a good, serious gaming experience, I'd go grab a Squeenix original RPG or something. But as for just some fun fluff and playing with characters in the world of one of my favorite series? The games are <3. Cheesy, simple plots, very easy to beat, but still pretty danged entertaining in their own way. These games have to be enjoyed for what they are- that is, something for the entertainment of fans of the series- and not measured up against more serious games like Final Fantasy, Zelda, or the like. |

X-Play rated it 2 out of 5, which is fair. As much as they bash anime games, they bash a number of other games. Anime fans just see them bash anime games, over looking the other bashing they do. They gave a handful of anime a 4 out of 5, like DBZ B3.
Need the less, the game, as beat em up, is pretty good. It has it share of puzzles, the camera didn't get in the way, most of the time, and the fact you can pull weapons out of everything. As a beat 'em up. However, it is short, repeative, loading everywhere, and all out boring. Find a group of enemies, take them out, gain/transmute a weapon, repeat. Take the cell shading out, it's the same as the first game. The only that has changed is Al is not as dumb and you can pull a weapon anywhere. That is it. 10 hours and your done. The only saving grace is preview of Season 2 DVD. |

Overall? Story? Animation? Music?
Well, if you have decided to start reviewing games, you will have to update the categories a little. Why not just call Animation Graphics and create a new category for Gameplay? |

My, how did I manage to miss this gem? You know what? Not everyone likes anime. Deal. But there's a difference between not being a fan of something, and outright hating it. Just because they rated a anime-based game poorly simply means that the game, by itself, isn't that impressive. Which it's not. It's really only fun if 1) you like the series and 2) are just looking for simple entertainment based on that series. Anime games are really only targeted at the audience of that particular anime, and generally only a small number of people ever get truly into them. And you know what else? MOST "gamers" are into shooters and racing games. Yes, there's a lot of people who like other games, like RPGs, and yes, there's a lot of anime fans who also play videogames, but by and large, shooters and racing games tend to sell. Why else do you think so many are churned out by the gaming companies year after year? Don't bash someone for being more or less the average gamer as far as interest goes. Finally, "bunch of losers"? Heh, pot calling the kettle black, anyone? Try dropping the holier-than-thou attitude for once and consider that just maybe, other people might have different tastes and opinions from you.
For your information, I happen to adore my imported Rurouni Kenshin and Slayers RPGs. Do they have good gameplay? Not especially, just average at best. Do they have big fascinating plots? A bit predictable, and the Ruroken one especially feels a little Mary Sue-ish. Nice graphics? Mm, they're okay for the time they were made, I guess, but nothing fantastic. True to the original series? Well Slayers, that ain't hard to do, but the Ruroken one is totally not remotately related to canon. Do I still like playing them? Heck yeah. The thing is, never, EVER take a spinoff game seriously. It's not meant to be the next Final Fantasy, it's just entertaining fluff that gives you a chance to actually interact with the characters in some way. All I expect out of them is to be entertained, and on that, they more than provide. These are just spin-offs, sidestories, not-quite-canon-but-still-fun games that are meant for the fans to enjoy and not take too seriously. Sheesh, people really need to stop treating this kinda stuff as though just because it's related to an anime, it's some sort of holy thing that can't be touched or insulted. People need to stop taking it so seriously, because it's a GAME. You PLAY a game. For FUN. Did you have fun playing it? That's all that matters. /rant-mode |

I agree. If there is ever a slow(ish) period where I can put some pressure on temp to get our database programmer to reform it a tad for gaming reviews, I will. Until then, the information can be found in the review's main body ^^ And before it gets too out of hand, I want to add my opinion. No, its not horrible per say, but it could definitely be improved. Horrible is in a game review coming up, for a game I won't yet mention. Look for that, and you'll understand truly sub par. |

Call me nitpicky, but "Fullmetal" is one word instead of two words.

I consider Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir to be on the same level as 50 Cent: Bellproof. A game that was made for the soul reason to make a quick buck. Some anime games are good (I really liked the first PS2 Dragonball Z game), but most don't do the license justice.
