Ahh man. So get this, I sold my dreamcast and all of the games with it before I moved...
I owned this one game called sword of the berserk. I liked it a lot but I never got far into it and stopped playing and forgot all about it and the storyline and everything.
I bought and watched the whole season of Berserk a few days ago. While watching Berserk I thought to myself "This guy looks like the character in that game I used to have."
Yesterday I was lookin stuff up about Berserk (because I love it and am now obsessed), and I found out that the game I used to have was from the same anime that I love now. I was like "No way, I can't believe it." Now Im pissed, because I didn't play the game much and can't remember the storyline or anything about it. I wish I would have never sold my dreamcast now.
So I have two questions. One about the game and the other about the manga.
I was wondering if anyone that has played the game remembers the storyline and could they tell me what it's about and what happens.
Also, does the same thing that happens in the game happen in the manga?
Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but my topic does have to do with the manga. And I have more questions about the manga ill ask later.

well, never playted the game but the manga tells you the story about gutts his life.
You can describe the manga as follows: you see gutts, he has a couple of adventures, then you get a major flashback about his life en then the story continues.
Well, that major flashback thing is the part that is animated. But the manga is much better IMO since it has more depth into the story, not too mention more gore

Ok, so I know up to vol 8 is out in english. I think the japanese ones are out to like 22 or something...
Anyways, I have heard that vol 4-13 is where the anime takes place. I have seen the anime so I would rather skip those volumes. I was told that it will probably take 4-5 years to get to vol 14 in english. Is that true? I have to wait that long to continue Guts aventure?

28 actually.
But I wouldn't recommend skipping 4-13, as it's quite diffrent from the anime, and actually better in my opinion.

They're actually on Volume 30 at the moment...Chapter 259 was the most recent one published. Berserk is awesome. Read the entire thing. Even if you've seen the anime, it's still worth reading the flashback bits.

I guess I will buy vol 1-8... then 9-13 when they are out.
Since it looks like they are all 200+ pages it might take me 4-5 years too read them anyways.

Hahahaha you're funny. It's not going to take you 4-5 years to read 8 volumes of manga. More like each volume of Berserk should take you no more than 45 minutes to read each. I'm guessing you don't read much manga. Although you made a really great choice about which manga to read, Berserk is at this point my favorite manga closely followed by 20th Century Boys.

Yah, when I buy vol 1 of Berserk, it will be my first manga purchase ever.
Im not a big manga person, I prefer to watch the anime over the manga anyday. But I love Berserk so much and hunger for more of it. So what the hell, ill give manga a chance.

Anime_Fever, I have that game its awesome but I have to look for it, I know the story line involved Caska this after she gets crazy which is way after this series I guess any who a priest needs her to revive some old demon guy, and that's as far I remember, if I find it I'll play it again, and take screenshot and stuff.

I played through both the Dreamcast and PS2 Berserk games not too long ago so I could record the FMVs for characterization reference in translation. While the PS2 game is a much better game in my opinion, they're both worth checking out if you're a fan of Berserk. The plot of the Dreamcast game doesn't actually occur in the manga (unlike that of the PS2 game), it's more of a sidestory. But chronologically, it would occur between volumes 21 and 22 of the manga. Guts has been reuinted with Casca after searching for her at the Tower of Albion, but I don't think he has run into Griffith and Zodd just yet given his interaction with Zodd within the game.
While I didn't pay terribly close attention to the plot, the gist of the game is that a king/nobleman enlists your aid to rid his domain of a mandrake infestation which is causing people to mutate and zombify. Of course, there is more going on beneath the surface as you get further into it.
I've fallen in love with the Berserk manga and I heartily recommend reading it if you enjoy the anime. I also recommend both games, particularly the PS2 one. Its storyline comes straight from the manga (volumes 22-27), with some extra plot elements thrown in.
It was ironic to see this thread today, as just a few hours before it started I had finished going over the translation script for Berserk volume 10 with my consultant and will be delivering it to Digital Manga today. I often wish the manga would be released more frequently than it is, but financial considerations aside this book is worth taking the time on to make sure it's done well. I love chatting up with my consultant about all the possible theories of where it's going and how it might end, what the true identity and significance of this or that enigmatic character might be. There are many elements that bear the mark of brilliant writing in this masterpiece.
