Favorite character: Shuusuke Fuji. His matches were easily the most exciting. In fact, most of my favorite matches from the anime have Fuji in it. Very Happy I also really enjoy characters that are laid back, but also hide unreal potential.

The Prince of Tennis was chock full of exciting and interesting characters. I like most of them. Even the ones I didn't like I eventually grew to enjoy.

I've always wanted to check out this title, since it seems to be quite popular in Japan, and I need some sports manga. A question for those who've seen it: How does this title compare to other sports manga/anime? I'd like to see it on TV here, since it has action but not the typical fight scene.

Your reason? Watch the grammar, please.

I really enjoyed The Prince of Tennis. It was actually one of the first sports series I checked out, but having seen a few more since, I have to say that it's quite different in its execution than any I've seen before. There's no real story, except "Let's get to Nationals...eventually!", and the main character is quite cocky and talented, so the series is not built upon improvements, just watching good players play tennis.

In fact, aside from a smal handful of "find yourself" moments, there isn't any real feeling of self growth. However that sounds, I really do think the characters are great. There's such a gigantic cast, and virtually every character is capable of distinguishing themselves from others. The tennis matches are very exciting, and the episode stories in between the matches are oftentimes hilarious, even if they alone are simply filler stories. It's a series that litterally exists on its character and matches alone.

Having watched or read a handful of sports series (need to watch/read Slam Dunk!), The Prince of Tennis is still my favorite, although I'm pretty close to liking Eyeshield 21 more.
