At what volume does the Urabatosatsujin (tournament) arc end in Flame of Recca? I'm curious because although I really enjoy this series, I don't think I'd want to collect it up to 33 volumes, and am considering ending it after the current arc (I'm on volume 8).

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but in a lot of ways, the tournament is a setup for the main story. The meat of the real story behind Recca, his power, and everything else is told well after the tournament. If there is a place to stop reading it, it would be when you stop enjoying it.

Ahmm, I was afraid of that. Well, I still really like to read that series, so I suppose I'll just continue until I tire of it. Thanks though.

The best stuff comes after the Tournament arc, so I recommend continuing to read it.
The Tournament arc ends in volume 16.

I always try and start a series from the first issue because it generally gives you the plot for at least half the story in that issue. Not with Flame of Recca, though. I had no clue what each new issue would show next. That's a thing that makes FofR stand out from others.

I think Flame of Recca is really good because of precisely what Neo-Yasha said, but it also reminds me of YuYu Hakusho. But I guess you can't have such originality so late in the manga parade. (I can't find a better word for it, but this isn't the one I want.)
