I've just started reading the Negima manga; and I'm loving it. I know of an anime adaptation; but is there any US news? And if anyone's seen it, are there any differences between the show and manga?

I've seen the show through ep 21, but haven't read the manga. . .they do change the order of some events, like the adventure at Library Island, which comes a little later in the anime. As far as I know, there's no US news about it where licensing is concerned. Given the underage romance/lolicon/shoutacon/teacher-student relationship elements the storyline, it might not get licensed. Still, they might bank on the popularity of Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina to drive sales, although I imagine the Negima dub wouldn't be any better.

Since it aired on TV Tokyo, the fanservice was toned down a lot. The major changes came towards the end - some stuff was taken out of the Kyoto arc (the kiss-catch game for example) and shown earlier (resulting in a lot of knock-on changes like missing pactio cards), and the Kyoto arc itself was shortened immensely (e.g. no Kouta) and wrapped up in two episodes. The end featured a lot of stuff that hasn't happened in the manga (yet) since the manga is still running (I think the serials are up to around chapter 103 now). There were also some other new material (which arguably worked a lot better than the material adapted from the manga), for example the Sayo episode.

They did move a lot of stuff around. Basically, I think it had to do with the "fan favorite" poll they released around chapter 70-80 of the manga somewhere. I've noticed that characters who performed well in that poll have had their roles expanded or at least brough earlier in the series in the anime, while characters that performed poorly had their roles minimized (for example, very minor , a ghost character who was introduced in what would equate to, say, episode 40-50 of the anime is instead moved up to episode 19 because she did outstandingly well in the poll, placing as 4th most favorite character I believe.)
I hear he writes this series very much by the seat of his pants, without a clear idea as to the immediate future of the title in advance, so it stands to reason that he'd edit himself when doing the anime version.
