I saw the Cardcaptor Sakura series on Teletoon a few years ago and well I've noticed that out of the 70 episodes, Teletoon only aired a few of the episodes and they also aired them in a completely different and rather confusing order. (An example would be the airing of epsiode 1 in the middle of the series. Question ) When I checked it up on ANN's encyclopedia, it said that there were also some episodes Kids WB didn't air either.
I was wondering why the two networks decided to skip airing some episodes and why the order was so mixed up-at least for Teletoon?

I rather suspect what you saw was Cardcaptors, not Cardcaptor Sakura.
There's some information on the chagned in the FAQ on the official Nelvana site:
http://www.clowbook.com/

For more information, try:

Yeah, they are comepletely different shows. They have practically nothing to do with each other. Cardcaptor Sakura was a charming show about a girl trying to catch clow cards. Cardcaptors was a show about a guy and this girl that hung out with him and captured cards, and seemed to be trying to steal his spotlight. Hell, they skiped the FIRST seven episodes of the series. How does that even work?

Forget everything you think you know about Cardcaptor Sakura and watch the original show, subbed. It's much much better.

Back when I watched Cardcaptors on television and saw pretty much all the episodes that were offered, I actually thought it was decent. Then I heard about all the outrage over the extreme edits to the show and how it was completely different from the original version, Cardcaptor Sakura. The controversy had sparked my interest in the uncut, original version so I decided to purchase it and was thoroughly amazed by how much better it was than Cardcaptors. I wish I had never watched the much inferior version because it is definitely garbage compared to the original.

I see...well, I did suspect something was wrong when I watched the show. I mean, I had heard about the hype that was centred around the show, but when I watched it the show really didn't seem that exciting to me. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Ya, now that I think about it, it was definitely Cardcaptors I was watching and not Cardcaptor Sakura. My memory was just a little blurry.

For me, as well.

It was due to Cardcaptors that I got into Cardcaptor Sakura, and from there CLAMP's other works like RG Veda, Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, etc.

However, if you want to see the extreme differences between the two, get a DVD copy of Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie, play the English Dub track along with the Subtitle Track -- it's two very different stories and endings on one DVD. Rolling Eyes

I did do that and I noticed a lot of the important lines were changed. From what I heard, that doesn't happen in the second movie, though. The japanese and english track are both as close as can be supposedly, not that I really care about the english track anyway. I'm going to watch the second movie after I watch the entire series again.

I, too, would definitely encourage you to watch the original, uncut Cardcaptor Sakura, as it's 100,000 times better than Cardcaptors. The DVDs are a weighty investment (18 volumes!) so it would probably be in your interest to find out if they're available at a rental place anywhere near you. Or try asking around to see if anyone you know has collected the entire series. Of course, buying the DVDs is an option, but they're extremely rare in brick and mortar stores nowadays and, well, buying 18 DVDs just takes a very long time.

Didn't someone (or ANN news post?) say something about CCS being released in box set/thin pak format recently? I wasn't really paying attention since I already shelled out the cash for the individual DVDs...

Also, the second movie's dub is supposed to be a literal translation and thus a 'good dub' but it's too little too late in my opinion, I mean, after watching the entire series in Japanese with subtitles and you've gotten used to the voices/reading and everything, who's really going to listen to a dub, no matter how accurate it may or may not be? It just seems like a waste of time on their part to do that.

Anyway, I'm with Snowfairy as well... I saw the Cardcaptors dub on TV, it got me interested, then I started wondering about things (inconsistancies? I'm not sure anymore) and I looked it up, found the contraversy, thought the original sounded even better and picked up Vol. 1, decided it was much cooler and started picking up this series. By the way, CCS was my FIRST subtitled anime DVD. Ah, warm fuzzy memories... Wink

Hmm.. I don't remember hearing about that (I think someone mentioned it would be nice on the ANN news message board, but I don't think it's happened). Still, correct me if I'm wrong. I DID just find this deal at Amazon.com. The first 15 DVDs for almost half of what they're worth. Still, it's a big chunk of change to part with. ^^;

D'oh! Hearing news like that forces me to gaze sadly at my individual DVDs and wonder how much $$$ I could have saved by just waiting... Oh well. At least this will make it easier for new fans of the show (and their wallet) to digest it. 'Tis often a cruel and expensive world for anime collectors.

What a coincidence, same with me. It's my first anime on dvd and has remained as my number two favorite anime to this day. I would think that it's pretty obvious that Cardcaptor Sakura is one of my all time favorites by my current avatar.

I'm happy with my "limited edition" postcards Wink. I don't want to make it seem like I'm rich or anything(I'm not), but I still can't resist collecting the new set even though I already have the entire series. There are others out there like me so I'm not the only one that's crazy Wink.

I remember posting about CardCaptors last year and I believe I said though it had been pretty mishandled, I thought it wasn't half bad (wasn't half good either). I pretty much got jumped by a third of the board. Rolling Eyes

My deal is Nelvana made it more presentable for boys by adding more to Li's part and subtracting much of Sakura's life. Besides the normal edits (come on I think this was 1998; the implied and not-so-implied girl-girl, man-girl stuff wasn't going to fly in the States), it was watchable and a lot of times that's all TV guys care about. Also, any series with alot of edits or missing eps. just makes most fans do what I did when I saw Yu Yu Hakuso, Outlaw Star, and Rurouni Kenshin on TOONAMI, Blue Gender on [adult swim] and Neon Genesis Evangelion on Giant Robot Week: go out and buy/rent the uncut episodes on VHS/DVD.

I'm sorry, but I just can't take a dub seriously when they REMOVE the FIRST 7 episodes. That's just ridiculous. At most I could accept them moving them around a bit, airing them after a few of Li's episodes as flashbacks, but to remove them completely? No way.
