Hello all, thanks for taking the time to read. MY wife and I have planned on going to this one anime convention every year since we have been together and never could due to prior engagements, emergencies, etc. But this year, the year in which we got married, we thought it would be fitting to go to the convention. The only problem being, what should we cosplay as?! They are having a competition and the only problem we're having is agreeing on outfits that go together. Please, if anyone has any suggestions blast them out, preferably with pictures so we can get an idea of what we would be easiest for us to make. Thanks!
[EDIT: Reworded the title to sound a little smoother. -TK] |

There are a lot of good choices in anime. It really depends on four things:
1) How much time are you willing to put into assembling a proper costume? Some cosplay costumes are very elaborate and require extensive preparation (including make-up and hairdos), while others just involve putting the right outfits together. 2) What are your anime interests? It's always more fun to go as character you like, and at the very least you should cosplay as characters you two are familiar with. 3) What do you look like? Some say this doesn't matter, but the good cosplayers I see at 'cons are the ones who choose characters with at least vaguely similar builds and/or ages. 4) Is cosplaying a couple important, or can it just be characters from the same title? Specifically doing a couple can really limit your choices (especially if you want to stick to an adult couple). One that I haven't seen done but think could be cool to do would be Broken Blade, which uses a mostly adult cast and highly-cosplayable uniforms and clothing. Main characters can be seen in this picture. Another one that could make for a good pair is the brother-sister duo in Scrapped Princess; see here for a pic. Always liked their get-ups and was always disappointed that I didn't commonly see people trying to cosplay them. Balsa and Tanda from Moribito could also be an interesting choice, especially if your wife's on the tall side, since a lot of people would like to see them as a couple. See here for a pic. |

My daughter once intended to cosplay as Re'l from Ergo Proxy. That's not too hard to pull off. You just need a lot of blue eye shadow, a black outfit, and a large toy gun. Her buddy Vincent isn't too hard either. Mostly you need some shabby clothes and that pendant he wears. Here's someone cosplaying Vincent and another cosplayer interpreting Re'l.
As Key says, Balsa and Tanda make a nice pair, as do Shurrei and Ryuuki from Saiunkoku Monogatari. Shurrei's everyday wardrobe is probably easier to pull off than her full imperial princess regalia. Another pair that might not be too hard to assemble is Firo and Ennis from Baccano! Basically they both wear suits, but make sure you get that fedora, though! There are some other good pairings in that show like Issac and Miria and the lovely but deadly Chane and spoiler[Rail Tracer (img)]. |
