I like the premise, the first two episodes were pretty good, and episode nine wasn't too bad. But everything in between is pretty poor.
There are two big problems: the characters are basically braindead, and instead of the tale of two awkward teens getting friends we get a cringe-inducing cookie-cutter harem scenario.

You're discounting the genuineness, Vylash. Chiwa, Masuzu, and Eita have an interesting and enjoyable dynamic between them. Too bad it's muddied up by Himeko, who adds nothing, and later Ai, whose role is pretty much redundant to Chiwa's. On their own, the later additions are cute enough, but they dilute what was otherwise a somewhat refreshing scenario.
Also, Masuzu's little sister and the family drama she brings, ugh.

I'm just watching it for Yukari Tamura and I'm being entertained with her performance, in particular her readings of the journal {which I had to go back while streaming it because of how she read it}. Chiwa's antics are just a bonus, though she's highly amusing in her own right.
It's a comedy and I'm fine with it being that {Of course, I also enjoyed I Don't Like My Big Brother At All so I'm biased or stupid or something}. As long as I ignore who licensed it...
The washed out look? I think that goes back to the light novels. I don't think I've ever seen the characters look otherwise.

Tbh, this is a meh series for me this season. The pilot episode was very impressive imo and as a fan of the various versions of the manga, I was quite pleased. However, the episodes that followed have just been not clicking well and in general, a let down.
The latest episode seemed to be a mini arc with Ai being the center of attention. I do like the characterization of her character but overall, just average so far. Well, at least the Jojo references are funny to watch imo.

I've been following the series since it first aired, and I more or less agree with the review. The show's certainly not great, but it's on the better side of "enjoyable fluff" to me, and makes for a fun little 22 minute distraction each week.

I didn't feel comfortable with the first two episodes, and 5 minutes into the third I gave up on this. There was a bullying vibe to the way Masuzu manipulated Chiwa that really didn't sit well with me.
It didn't help that I am really far behind on my watching this season - any show that wasn't quickly enjoyable (or started going downhill) was dropped.

Nice review. I can appreciate what it says, but I just don't think any of the series's strengths are strong enough to actually make it impressive. Not being totally generic is a start, but I don't find the characters and story actually good, just mildly appreciably different. I can't find it funny, either. I do like the visuals, though. I find it good - not great - by harem standards, a shade less than average by regular standards.

I like this series a lot, although I would definitely rate it a "good" rather than a "great", so in that way I agree with the review. It has a lot of the normal elements of a harem show, but I think that the thing that separates it from most is that it's actually funny. Not cutesy-funny, not "oh, look how oblivious the guy is, ha ha!" funny, but actually has good jokes that make me laugh every episode.
I'm a few episodes farther than this review covers, but I just want to say I don't think Himecchi is useless. She's pretty funny in her sharing of Eita's delusions (which are by far the best part of the show). And yeah, Masuzu is a total bitch.. but that's really where a lot of the humor comes in. I chuckle with sadistic glee at seeing the shenanigans she pulls off - although she sometimes gets her comuppance as well which balances it out.
Anyway, like I said, I like this show. I would rate it far above average for a harem series, though that still only makes it 'good' in the overall rankings.

OK, this has been on my "maybe" list all season. This review suggests that I should just go ahead and watch it already. It sounds like something I'll like...

I wrote this review before episode 7 came out, but even figuring in episodes 7-9 wouldn't have changed my evaluation much. I'd be tempted to downgrade the writing to a C+, since the stuff with Ai is desperately lacking in freshness and distracts from the elements that made the series a little different in its first half, but otherwise the grades would remain the same. Of the five currently-airing shows I'm following week-to-week, it's always my lowest-priority view.
That being said, it remains a decent show, and watching a true harem series try to get by without a significant fan service component is kinda interesting in of itself.

I'm liking this show quite a bit, and its gotten even better since Ai has shown up (she is the very definition of adorable). Hime was kinda bland and I don't really like Masuzu much since she is a bully, but Ai and Chiwa are totally worth watching this show for.
Its one of the better Romcoms I've seen recently.

huh, I think Ai is hilarious, and now that she has finally told Eita everything, perhaps now he wont be so damn oblivious

It's not cerebral, but it's one of those vapid harem comedy shows that I actually end up enjoying. If nothing else, a chance for Yukarin to exercise both her light and dark voices.

I think you need to watch the first episode again, or look a bit more closely at the OP...

I actually really liked the coloring the anime uses. It's soft and easy on the eyes.
