They showed up once I refreshed the page, but it doesn't matter, the quality of Cabrera's photos aren't worth the bandwidth. Seriously, why is it so hard to take some decent photos? They're often badly out-of-focus or focused on something it shouldn't. If you're not using flash, at least get the focus right and use a tripod. I don't know if you have a point-and-shoot or a DSLR, but it seems to really struggle for close-ups.
God, I sound like a grumpy, trolling guy, but after this one I just had to say something. Sorry.

The pictures are fine.
For 40 bucks you would think they wouldn't make the breasts this ugly. I mean jut look at that huge gap between her tits and the rest of her body. They could have saved the money they used on the cockpit to make the figure look better.

It's better that way, believe me. I've seen better looking toys free in cereal boxes.

So,... buy it for the chair, then replace the figure? ;p
I think the pictures look fine as well.

This is the one time I think the Revoltech looks better than the Figma. It's unfortunate that the accessory is so great on so mediocre a figure, and moreso that Max Factory made something so unimpressive. Their Guyver vinyl kits were gorgeous and the first models I ever built.
I think of Mari as a gargantuan parody of the shallower aspects of Eva and its fandom and find her annoying to no end so this particular figure is a no sale. Although, if an Asuka Shikinami shows up in Figma with the same middle-of-the-road figure and also a cockpit it might be a hard choice.
Edit:Correction, an Asuka did come out...

Gah! Agreed! The boobs! What the heck? I mean, he's right, the chair is really cool, but the figure? I mean, it's not quite as bad as "Ed with mutated long arms" but still.

Quote: | Mari Makinami Illustrious (were they going for Tomino names?) is a mysterious new Eva pilot whose main function in the second film is to remind the viewer at every opportunity that she has larger-than-average breasts. Go on, watch that movie, come back here, and tell me I'm wrong. |
er...as I pointed out in a question I wrote in to ANNcast the other week, much of Evangelion is a satire of other Giant Robot shows.
Mari Illustrious Makinami is basically a parody of the "requisite new character for a remake" and a satire of Mary Sue characters in general.
I mean...you seriously think that when she essentially breaks the fourth wall and giggles her breasts right at the camera while commenting on how tight her costume is....that they're being serious? Its a satire. And I think its pretty funny.
She's like Poochie from the Simpsons.

When I had noticed the images on Hobby Search's site, I thought perhaps the images were of the prototype, and not of production.
Now to see these are the production runs is sickening. What's going on at Max Factory of late? This hit-or-miss is becoming too prominent. I've noticed my Black Rock Shooter figure wasn't the only one to snap in half either.
Well, aside from a few, I've decided to head over to the Nendoroid camp. These things are bigger than I thought and I can store many more of them.
@V: Do you purposely sniff out any thread with Eva discussion in it just because you can?
@Zac: cdn1, 2, and 3 have been running very slow for the last week. However, it's not consistent. These are the servers hosting the images for the article.
Usually, a refresh fixes the issue, but I've no idea why the initial loads take so much time. I think Dan may have to check out the reasons on this one.

Front-page headlines on the biggest anime news website constitutes "sniffing it out"?

Oh, man, it's just that hard to ignore the gap between her boobs and her body.

That's not the figure Evangelion fans want, it is the figure Evangelion fans deserve.

Whew, that's an ugly figure. I tend to shy away from pose-able figures (like figmas) anyway since I don't like the way the joints look, but this.... this gives an entirely different reason to stay away.
Although, what with the beast face, creepy breasts, and a bugged out pose of some sort, this is ALMOST ugly enough to make it awesome again (things go full circle in my book). At the very least, it would definitely be a conversation starter, if not the stuff of nightmares.
