You forgot the part in which the orphans are forced to train against their will. To make it worse, Athena is a damsel of distress most of the time so the only 5 warriors she has always bleed a lot in order to save her. Also, I never understood why a female god would force the women to hide their faces.[/quote] |

That initially surprised me, too. I thought that maybe it was because they hadn't yet been animated, and I was presuming that everyone on the list had appeared to some extent in an anime series. Then someone here says that the #1 pick wasn't in the Index TV series (the movie, maybe?). So, I don't know what's up with the list missing such a prominent title. ^^; |

But it has been animated! There's an OVA not yet subtitled but it's been online for a couple of months and an animated film which hasn't been released in Japan I think. |

The first part about Aiwass teaching Crowley in the series afaik has never been stated. It is just kind of being assumed to be true because its logical to think based on their names they probably parallel what real life Crowley said. The last part about him being an administrator of the Misaka Network is almost definitely false and never stated. He was summoned using and placed a large burden on the network, but him having actual power over it like an administrator was never mentioned nor do I think there is even anything to support that. Fuze's situation was pretty much identical and there is nothing suggesting she has administrator power over the network either. |

I was never really sure of this either. It was almost as if she died or something? Though the anime is continued in the manga, so maybe its explained more there. Also Loki as a more evil good is actually debatable. In early versions of the god he was viewed as a god of fire, and very benevolent to people. |

Does anyone else think that "Metatron" sounds like it should be the name of a Transformer? Heck, it's already only one letter off from the name of an actual Transformer.

Aw, you left out the Greek gods used in Shin Mazinger and Cyborg 009. Ah well, at least Susanooh from Blue Seed made it in. That was the first anime I got a boxset for. It's been a while, maybe I should revisit it.

I'm not sure if Tears to Tiara should be on this list, or where it would go if it were, but it's a total mishmash of various dieties and legends from the British Isles, especially Celtic and Welsh. Unfortunately, I'm not well-versed enough in that lore to sort out how badly they've mangled it all.

Although the characters' personalities are the same, the anime and manga story lines are VERY different. Most of what happens in the anime never happens in the manga. In the manga, it isn't Hel who spoiler[seeks revenge on her father. She loves him a lot (maybe a little more than normal...) It is ultimately revealed to be Odin's son. who wants to destroy Loki. Odin's son is defeated and Freya ends up becoming the ruler of the gods.] As far as what happens to Hel in the anime, it's pretty lame actually. She spoiler[ is very lonely because her father never paid any attention to her. It's only when he is transformed and sent down to the earth that he learns to appreciate and cherish his loved ones. He is sorry that he was never there for her as a father and tells her he will die with her if that will make her happy. This moves her so much that she no longer wishes for him to be destroyed and simply fades away, happy that she has finally found the love she longed so desperately for.] Although the story limps along, Loki Ragnarok is one of my favorites. The characters are great and I love how they play with Norse mythology. Thor, the god of agriculture always has part time jobs working with food and carries a kendo stick instead of a hammer. Instead of his traditional wild boar, Frey has a mechanical pig. Yamino is always nervous around Thor, who, in the old myth kills him. Just like in the old myth, Loki and Heimdall spoiler[fight to the "death" on a bridge], Heck, even the idea that Ragnarok is the "Twilight of the Gods" gets an homage, as the final episode is filled with images of the setting sun and rainbows (the rainbow bridge). There's tons of juicy fun for literary nerds like me. |

Hel goes back to the underworld I believe. She rules it so she can't really... die... I think. It's always been my opinion that the people behind the anime started off wanting to do a kids show, then got around episode 12 and went "Screw it, let's follow the manga more" and completely threw off the episodic kid formula they had up til then, while at the same time screwing up whatever new plot they were attempting. The anime tried to end with the ending of volume 7 of the manga (the ending of the first series, Mythical Detective Loki. the manga would then continue in a new magazine under the name Mythical Detective Loki RAGNAROK). The manga ended with a chance for Loki to go back home to Asgard, and Freyr ends up trying to stop him the whole time for reasons I forget. In the end Loki's stuck on earth for a bit longer, but doesn't think it's so bad after seeing how much Mayura would have missed the kid version of him. The anime tried to mix that up with a fight against Odin that at the time was no where near resolution in the manga. They also threw in the introduction at the very end with the Frost Giant Angrboda, who is Fenrir and Yamino/The Midgard Serpent's mother. The manga goes on from there (ADV manga released two volumes of this portion) for another 6 volumes leading up to the end of the world/Ragnarok, and a war between the various gods. In the end spoiler[Loki wins against Odin with the help of the Norns, Thor is made the new ruler, and Loki is given a choice (I was never really clear on it based on the translations I got) on whether to continue on in Asgard as a god (I think he was offered the ruling position, maybe another Loki fan can clear this up for me) or to continue living on Midgard (Earth) as a powerless human. Loki (now in his true adult form) encounters Mayura (who had her memories of Kid Loki and his detective agency erased), crying over the ruined remains of his old house and asks her if she wants to start a detective agency with him. Yamino shows up as a snake again, and Fenrir as a dog who can't speak, and Loki starts a detective agency with Mayura out of a shack made of the remains of his old mansion.] The author has since returned to Mythical Detective Loki online featuring spoiler[the detective adventures of "Adult" Loki and Mayura.] I'm surprised Angel Sanctuary didn't make this list. |
