Greetings and felicitations. I have a question about entering data, specifically the vintage of manga volumes. Is it permissible to enter (as I did with the City Hunter manga) the vintage of each volume of the tankoubon (and bunko in this case, though wideban would also be part of the question), or is this abusive? My source of information is the best--PRISMS, so that's not a problem; I just want to know if I should continue.
For the record, I'm in the running for a top contributor spot this month. Edit: I notice that someone's already beaten me to KochiKame. |

Although vintage was not designed with individual volumes in mind, it's become quite common for people to enter them that way.
Perhaps later we'll expand the volume title section to include dates, but for the time being, entering the dates in that method is fine. Do not enter North American releases that way though, we have the release list for that. -t |

For manga, there is already a type of information called "Volumes", so please don't enter volumes under "Vintage".

What if there is no release entry for the particular anime or manga? (E.g., none of the Devil Hunter Yohko VHS releases have entries, presumably because they were all before the Encyclopedia existed.) Also, how should I report errors in release entries (inconsistent or incorrect titles, contents, running time, et cetera)? |

But the "Volumes" entry form makes no mention of a date or dates--only volume number and title. As an example: the Volumes entry form for DearS. Also, if this is (now) the case, you have a huge backlog ahead of you--and not just because of me. :-/ |

(Replying to this post.)
See above. ^_^;
(Note: I'm the very wayward keeper of the FAQ, but I think that's as good a definition as you'll find.)
In some cases the date information for the bunko (or the wide-ban or aizou-ban) are all that is available in English, and I would point out that PRISMS includes it (for first printings, of course). See Rough for an example of the formating.
I look forward to it (as long as it is done well, of course--to do so is the challenge ahead of you. ^_^). |

Unlike anime DVD, most manga tankoubons have no volume title (per tankoubon) but chapter titles, thus "volume" for manga provides very limited information. I'd recommend removing "volume" for manga altogether and install "chapter titles" similar to anime's "episode titles." The date information (if applicable) can mark the date of its serialization on a magazine. For tankoubon info, a red remark can be added; for example, if a manga contains five chapters per tankoubon, then a red REM: such as "end of volume 1" can be added within the title of 5th, 10th, 15th...chapters. Furthermore, since some US licensors would modify number of chapters per tankoubon, the EDITED: tag can be useful as well, marking "end of US volume 1" and such. "Vintage" is then (temporarily) reserved for tankoubon release, until a multi-lingual, multi-national release database is available. Just my two cents. P.S. Can we merge two "Data entry ethics" threads together? |

And perhaps upgrade the forum software so that the poster can delete thier own posts? I would have killed the other thread before any replies, but I could not find an option to do so. ^_^; |
