I havnt read all the posts but them taking out just a "nipple" throught the whole manga 1, i dont is all that big of deal, but man those people on that forum are anti-censor and we do need people like that, i remeber my first Ranma and the nipples on every 10-20 pages, all i remeber about that is having to hide it wail reading in any public area for the fear of some arse poping up behind my going "OMG!!!1 Boobies!"(it has happned, many times) then then have to eather explain Ranma to everyone or just put up with stares. Point is i coudl have lived fine without the nipple in that manga, why? becouse it was just fanservice and had no big point in the manga, now when they censor something major like Battle Royale(Read the book seen the movies dont like the style of the manga so i havnt read it) where the gore and violence and horrior is what made the story, the story and they censored that then i see picking up arms and fighting, but liek they say you gotta pick your battles, and also Everything has to start somewhere no matter how small

Oh, they censored the Battle Royale manga? I was going to buy them but screw that. That really irks me.
And I don't agree with editing manga for nudity. If they have to, they are marketing it to a younger audience than it was intended to be marketed towards. And people need to get over nipples and stuff. Everybody has them and if it's ok to show a man topless every page then it should be ok to show a female topless once in a whole manga. And I could care less about what people think I read. If that were true, I wouldn't read manga period in public because most people that don't read it think they are all porn novels anyway. Atleast this is my personal experience. And I've read alot of socially acceptable books that talk about people having sex but it's not ok to draw nipples? I just really wish the manga industry would get over editing. If you feel like you need to edit the manga, then don't publish it. |

Here we go again. *gets ready for blast*
One of these days, I'm going to have to learn Japanese so I can import manga. That would solve quite a lot. For me, the point is not the innapropriate material. I know people who have the potential to get a manga published, and they'd never want their work edited. |

I was never really interested in By The Sword, but this is pretty stupid. The edit in the first volume makes her breast look strange, kind of lopsided, at least that's how I see it. But worse is that one on page 102 in volume 2. They're okay with a girl squeezing another girls boob but they are so going to hell if they show a little nipple.... Yeah.
Anyways, does anyone know if there is a "edited English release" manga black-list out there?? Just a list of manga that get edited when they come over?? Just wondering. If they're isn't, I think it'd be a nice little idea for someone to start. |

Maybe they should just remove all breasts and all butts from all the male AND female characters! And then what, remove all eyes because of their sexy curves. Maybe we should also not draw arms on any of the characters. What are we? Victorians? Oh yes, the good old days when even a piano leg was covered because it was seen as too provocative. What we have here is a continuation of the American Puritan tradition, in which exterminating Indians was ok but talk of sex was taboo. What I mean is violence is acceptable but raciness isn't. I mean, what's next, we need to add pants to Porky Pig and cgi some shorts on Chewbacca? It's just pure hypocrisy. I mean you have the curve of a breast but somehow a nipple on it makes it vulgar? Maybe all female characters should be drawn with a bra OVER their shirt so you know nothing is showing. Unfortunately, I think there is going to be a bigger and bigger push to censor manga to the point that there will be no difference between manga and the cookie-cutter stories you see in American comics where instead of cuss words they say something like "#$#%^$%in".

Nice -- so much quallity there.
I admit that this isn't a title I'd be interested in (and I'm not a fan of nudity in manga), but if the nudity is so bad for ADV, why the smeg did they license it? Oh wait, weren't they trying to corner the anime and manga market? Yeah, this incident will help them improve their sales. Full Metal Panic is the only thing I'll purchase from ADV, and that's just because I had already started a while back. I won't buy anything else from ADV until some major improvements are made over there. |

Do you think that ANN would consider starting an "Edit List" for manga too since it keeps popping up in the news?

I started a thread about an Edit List idea in the Encyclopedia section of the forum, if anyone's interested in something like that....

Two words to describe why nudity is being edited: Robert Mapplethrope.

I think that this is an apples and oranges comparision.
Manga is not being treated as Mapplethrope's works. Manga is treated as merchandise to be marketed to the most profitable age range. In this case, 13+ probably. Mapplethrope's creations is art to be exhibited and commented on. |

If censorship occours on a one-time instance of nudity because the nudity is there only once, I can live with that. The problem lies with the fact that the manga being censored is already and remains graphic enough that the censorship is illogical. TenTen, I''s, and By the Sword all have enough provacative shots and/or sexual situations that it makes no sense to go through the effort to remove nipples. If the context calls for it, leave it in! It makes absolutely no sense otherwise. If for no other reason, consider the artistic integrity. |

However, Mapplethrope's works were exhibited as public as manga work being sold in stores. Although it has a minority that it is being marketed to, it is still profitable as well. Sure they are from two different catagories, but they are being treated the same because the context of art is involved to sell these items. Manga is just a mainstream product and Mapplethrope's works, in this case, are limited editions. Both are being censored or not even shown for the same context of sexuality. I believe there is a connection despite their differences. |

I also agree with what Godaistudios said. If it's just one time, I wouldn't mind so much. But if they're going to have to comb every chapter, I don't see the point. The list of edits for TenTen was pretty darn long. |
