Adultswim has spawned some animes to be overrated, while for others it took no effect. Name a forgotten anime adultswim that you like in detail. You can talk about more than one, just don't be listing them off without detail explaination.
A show I've noticed is completely forgotten is Blue Gender. Some of my friends are like "Blue Gender was on Adultswim?". I still vaguely remember it, I was in 8th grade in middle school at the time, and I remember enjoying it, however the series was taken off before I could see very many episodes. I'm not sure anymore if the series was simply a single run, or if adultswim had it for awhile. I'm sure arguably nothing is "forgotten", but in terms of adultswim I remember they had some strange series come and go. remember "Super Milk Chan", a series which is one of the top ones on the bottom 500 series list here... |

Well adult swim isn't really the origin of any anime so i wouldn't call anything "adult swim anime". Its just anime that happened to be on adult swim. I don't know how forgotten Blue Gender is, I absolutely LOVE that series and just finished re-watching it for the fourth time. But it might be pretty niche even in the niche crowd that is anime viewers, so despite how much its fans love it Blue Gender might just not have enough mass appeal and been doomed to semi-obscurity. Though to be fair if you want to find a place where people remember and liked blue gender you came to the right place, whenever I bring it up on these forums fans seem to come out of the woodwork.

Interesting. There are only two things I really remember about AS:
1) The ever-repeating Cowboy Bebop series (I'm betting it's still playing). 2) The idiotic shuffling of anime to new time slots, screwing it up, then trying to play nice by repeating the same episodes every day for a week (so it seemed). I stopped watching it when the shuffling became too difficult to follow once it included the new "alternating series" time slots. The genius to come up with this idea deserves a kick in the crotch. A few months ago, while perusing TV early in the morning, I came across a little show titled "Robot Chicken". I'll never watch AS again. |

Honestly I do not think the people at adult swim are the smartest in the industry, they were innovative for showing nearly uncut anime early in the the 00s decade, but most of their shows could have been written (in my opinion) by a middle schooler.
Back on topic. in terms of the anime, I don't remember them showing the same episodes to a series all week long, inless you are talking about the early morning repeat of adultswim. But I enjoyed how for some shows after a year or two they showed a new episode almost everyday (new to us anyway). That is how they finished up some of their series so fast. My guess they were cheap and purchased short licenses or something, and if a show was popular enough they extended the license to a realistic period of time. I just remembered adultswims wikipedia page today and ther show section. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Adult_Swim_programs#Pre-owned_shows_borrowed_for_broadcast I was surprised, they have more shows than I remembered. of course I quit watching adultswim regularly after the 10th grade, then watched adultswim again in my second year of college for a couple months. A lot happens during that time. Anyone know the reason adultswim didn't show end of evangelion? Is it because it would cost too much, or did they think they would go underfire because of the content near the end of the movie? |

Silly Person. Watch The Venture Brothers, it's the best show on television. Yeah, I'm including all those AMC and premium channel shows- The Venture Brothers beats them all and most anime- if I could rate it here it'd be a Masterpiece. Hilarious, smart, precisely plotted, themes played out carefully, pop cultural references treated as story elements instead of "hey- I recognize that reference" punchlines. As for AS anime... well, the most easy to forget anime they have is whatever is premiering next- They are absolutely horrible at promoting their stuff. If you don't pay attention to the right boards the first time you know a new show is starting or that new episodes are premiering on Saturday is if you tune in on the Friday before- which is about when the time they start airing television ads for it. Here are some fun facts though. Did you know they aired the Read or Die OVA (as a movie- which was extra odd as G4 was airing the TV series at the time) or the Escaflowne Movie (but not the series)? They did, once each... and of course they barely promoted either. |

Well I can understand the escaflowne movie because it is a complete retelling of the series. Oh, god the series would be an excellent series for adultswim! Too bad the series is pretty old now.
I remember when they ran read or die. I think it was one of the first things I saw on adultswim that actually showed a panty shot 0_0. Weird that I remembered that, but adultswim use to be more censored then they are now. |

Witch Hunter Robin is the answer; Blue Gender sucks and is rightfully forgotten.

Hey, I'm glad you said it and not me (although WHR was only a fraction better IMO) But at a time when I watched EVERYTHING A.S. showed (Even Ripping Friends and Reign: The Conqueror) Blue Gender was the first show I dropped and am not sorry I did. But hey, this is also from a guy who came to greatly appreciate Super Milk Chan- Yes, the first episode only had this laugh but the ever increasing delusions and insanity that was The President gave me some seriously odd surreal humor. |

*anxiously awaits lolriddled mentions of Candidate for Goddess and Perfect Hair Forever.*
Forgot about Reign: The Conqueror. Bravo, SM. I can't decide if it's a blessing or a curse that less-than-popular titles no longer get a shot at the AS programming block. It'd be nice to see something like Ghost Hound but on the flipside of the token they might start playing crap like Kemeko Deluxe. Either way, I'll always be grateful to AS for airing stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop. |

I hear ya vastosecans... All they buy is popular anime in otaku culture anymore. You will never see stuff like Chocolate underground, Night Wizard, Black Lion, etc. stuff on bottom 500, or just isn't popular anime on there. Although I must admit that it was adultswim that actually made a few series as popular as they are. Pray to god they won't put Azumanga Daioh on there. |

Spastic Minnow I could not agree more! I love The Venture Brothers. Just fantastic comedy right there. Who doesn't love a well done johnny quest spoof?
Petrifiedjello- you would probably be disgusted to know that Robot Chicken wins Emmy's every year. I like the show but then again I'm exactly what that show is aimed at (18-32 year old males). The answer to OP question is Perfect Hair Forever. I couldn't make it through 10 minutes. Not sure if it's anime or not but I had gladly forgotten it until I saw it posted here. |

Have to disagree about Perfect Hair Forever though. I thought it was brilliant, and thinking about it during this thread reminded me to check if they ever released a DVD (No- but I just signed up to be notified by Amazon if there ever is one).
It certainly wasn't anime though, it was an anime spoof written by people who had barely watched any anime, Deliberately obtuse and absurd, like a dream fueled by a Jalapeno Chili cheesedog before bed. From the ridiculous non-premise to the brain-racking theme by Melt-Banana it was designed to confound, and narrative was definitely thrown out... or as the Young Man said in the very final line of the show... "You Don't Understand!... It's a Mind-*EFFF*!" Last edited by Spastic Minnow on Fri Jan 21, 2011 6:10 pm; edited 1 time in total |

The OP quest is name a forgotten anime that you like in detail right? If thats the case my favorite anime on Adult Swim, rather my favorite anime of all time is Eureka 7. I'm not exactly sure how many people knew/forgotten it was on AS but thats what got me back into anime(more of forgotten it after i finshed DBZ in the 5th gradeish).
I love Eureka 7 for its amazing romance, character design, and music. The bond between the 2 leads Renton and Eureka was moved along perfectly over the course of the story. When episode 22-26 came around the relationship turned suddenly and thats is one of my favorite times in the series. The show focuses on character design for the first 10-11 episodes. We learn that every character on the gekko is differant and has there very own personality. Everyones task and skills are crucial to the survival of the whole crew and each is irreplacable in there own right(well other then the little brats). The ending was great, and i wish there was a sequel other then the movie. Yet why ruin a great thing i guess. i've been meaning to rewatch this for my 9th time >.> just havn't had the time lately. |

I wouldn't say that, after all they have created a very popular network. The reason why they aren't showing as much anime any more (I assume that's a main beef you have with them) is because of two big factors. The first, and most obvious, is that it's not profitable to show anime anymore. They have to cut back to make a profit. And the second reason is that Cartoon Network switched management hands a while back. See, the heads of Adult Swim are actually big supporters and fans of anime, after all, these are the same guys who started and ran Toonami. But the new CN management seems to absolutely hate anime. This is what eventually led to Toonami being destroyed by cutting back on anime, and it's a big reason why Adult Swim has done the same. Also I actually really like the programs on Adult Swim. I can only think of a hand full of bad shows that they air, and the rest are comedy gold. I can't get enough of shows like The Boondocks, The Venture Brothers, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman, Sea Lab 2021, ext. And they show some great british comedies. As for forgotten anime they have shown. I'd say Witch Hunter Robin is a big one. I really liked that show but everyone seemed to pass it up. It should have gotten way more attention. And also S-Cry-ed, I still find that to be an incredibly entertaining action show. Sure it doesn't have the most intelligent plot, but it has cool characters and great fights. And sometimes you just want to watch a mindless action show like that. |

I also thought that Perfect Hair Forever was a great parody of just random things anime sometimes does inexplicably made into a story. I mean, the main plot is (at least for episode 1) that the boy is trying to get conspicuously beautiful anime hair. Then it seemed to forget that plot and just do whatever it wanted, and that's what made it one of my favorite [adult swim] original 11 minute comedies (Sealab 2021 is still my favorite of the 11 minute things).
Ok, back to the actual topic at hand, which I assume is anime. Either I missed it or no one has mentioned Outlaw Star and Yu Yu Hakusho. These old promos, I remember having seen most of them. I think early [adult swim] action stole half of its shows from Toonami's Midnight Run, but that's where I started out watching anime. Outlaw Star has been my buddy for years, it was one of the first anime I ever bought on DVD (for like $90, back when I thought that price was fine). Didn't realize ep 23 never aired on TV until I got the DVDs, then it became very obvious as to why: not even 4Kids could make that work as a presentable half hour. Then I had the first 3/8ths of Yu Yu Hakusho on DVD for a while then last spring finally got the rest from TRSI, and man, I thought nostalgia might color it, except that I'd only ever seen maybe the first two seasons on TV (and random eps of the dark tournament). So yeah, I still really liked it even today, had shockingly good pacing when compared to DBZ and I still love the dub. Internet says that YYH moved to Toonami later, I don't seem to recall that very much. Also wish they still played Lupin the III, seeing how it's from the 70s, and I think it did fairly well on [as], it makes me think that some older stuff could still do well on there. I loved catching Lupin the III whenever I could. Oh and since I'd seen adult swim action since around the time it started, yes, I remember having watched Pilot Candidate. It was by no means the highlight of the night when Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, Tenchi Muyo, and Cowboy Bebop played the same evening, all I honestly remember is the cat girl and something about giant robots. But I also remember it as a more innocent time when I'd watch just about anything anime. On the other hand, I also liked The Super Milk-Chan Show. The entire objective was the show the same episode every week and vary what happened between the scenes, but I quite liked the ant family, rather odd thing for the show to do all of a sudden, then go back to nothing happening, but I think the bizarreness of the show worked for me. Anyone else go for Case Closed? Shame they moved it to the late night era then cancelled it. But I find it odd that that show is like, family programming in Japan but has to be aired late in the night here (I understand why, I mean, someone dies almost every single episode, which should surprise absolutely no one as Case Closed is mostly a murder mystery show), but yeah, I liked catching this from time to time. Paranoia Agent is another one, I think I only caught one ep when it was airing but saw the whole thing later, really wish they'd re-air this (and that Funimation would rescue it or someone, just put it back out on DVD!) Also, didn't they air The Ripping Friends for a while? How on earth did that show get greenlighted over on Fox Kids? |
