Am I the only one surprised that they're even making a Black Butler film? Shocked

RACISM! They casted an Asian for a British man!

In all seriousness, I actually had the thought of a BB movie the other day, with David Tennant as Sebastian.

I'm glad Mizushima is returning after he stopped acting since he is a good actor and all but I just don't see him fit the sebastian role that well. Only time will tell.

They did create the play so I don't feel as surprised but it is still a bit strange.

LOL, I guess I'm not the only one who thinks OnoD should be Sebastian:

A live action Black Butler film? The film will be set in London, England with a majority of all British characters but with an all Japanese cast? I can never really get this but most of all, there's a live action Black Butler movie?

Wow, my Twitter TL is full of Japanese comments expressing disappointment with both the decision to make a live-action and with the casting of Mizushima Hiro. ^^; There were also comments about how the story takes place 130 years later, which means there's no Ciel, which also means there's no reason for Sebastian to be a butler since he became a butler because of Ciel. ^^;;;;

Watch as there will be absolutely zero 'racebending' controversy about this movie.

Hehe, that'll be true. But a live action BB?? I'm just worried about who Ciel will be! I feel like this can't be pulled off. But I'm sure a girl with play Ciel and that the gay undertones of the series won't be so weird to some people now lol.

You know I always wondered why people attack Hollywood for whitewash whenever we cast a white person for Asian characters like Akira for example when Japan does something similar which I dub "yellowashing" and people in US that attack Hollywood for whitewashing never attack Japan for doing "yellowashing" (yep that's pro-Asian bias and agenda for ya), this isn't the first time they did this, for the live-action Thermae Romae, they had Japanese actors playing as Romans (and you thought having a white person playing an Asian person is bad enough):

Oh the hypocrisy. Laughing

As bizarre as this is, I'm excited to see Mizushima come back to acting again. He is a ridiculously talented man, and I've always enjoyed his work.

I'd imagine it's harder to blame Japan for "yellowwashing" when they likely don't have enough white actors in Japan who speak Japanese well enough. That's not an issue in Murrica, we have Asians, we have Asians who can act, and a lot of them live on the West Coast or are already working in some capacity related to film and theater. That goes for any race or ethnicity and why whitewashing today is old fashioned and stupid. I don't blame Japan for casting Japanese actors in white roles.
