Good for Gundam Unicorn. It's deserving of every one of those sales.

Why is that God awful Cars 2 movie so popular in Japan? Same with Madagascar. The Toy Story trilogy are excellent movies are deserve all their sales, but Cars 2 isn't even close to Toy Story or anything listed on that list.

More like why does it make perfect sense to me that what many agree is easily the worst of Pixar's movies would be amongst the most popular pieces of animation there. I've long since stopped being surprised by the kind of media that moves units in Japan anymore.

Aniplex has had the top selling show in 7 of the last 8 seasons (only Fall 2012 with Chuunibyou wasn't an Aniplex topped season)

Winter 2011: Madoka
Spring 2011: Ano Hana
Summer 2011: Idolm@ster
Fall 2011: Fate/Zero
Winter 2012: Nisemonogatari
Spring 2012: Fate/Zero 2
Summer 2012: Sword Art Online

Nobody in the anime industry knows how to make money like Aniplex does.

Yeah, a solid 20k on every single disc is incredible. You really can't ask it do any better than that, 10k alone is already considered successfully profitable for TV anime. I'm sure they are planning III and beyond, but they just don't announce it until they're already along on production, but sometimes it's nice to let fans know that something is happening.

Unsurprisingly (but to a slight extent, as I thought more titles would have cracked the top ten), Nisemonogatari made like gangbusters with 50K+ in the top ranks, even if it did not truly warrent those numbers. Better thank the otaku bait and Bakemonogatari connection on that one…

Don't care that FMA: Sacred Star of Milos came #50 in the list, still love it Smile

Well its not just a "Connection", its the same series. He just names each of the novel volumes differently.

Neko should be at the top of the sales numbers for 2013 too, its preorder numbers are already insane.

Because cars are popular in Japan. So a movie about cars being popular would fit in with that line of thought, especially among children.

Though its sales are inflated by being a DVD combo. The mainstream movies tend to do a lot better on DVD than Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray is more otaku territory. See: Totoro and Poppy Hill DVD sales in the othe list.

Cars 2? Strike Witches? K-ON?

Well, this gave me a good laugh.

While I don't really get why ANN adds Western cartoons to these lists (no other anime site that posts these lists does that), why are you laughing at Strike Witches and K-On? Do you really think those aren't the types of titles that would sell?
