I though I would ask how many people have heard of this online manga. I recently got hooked onto it and wait for new updates on the site. Just wondering who else have read the online manga. Oh and thoughts about online mangas? In my opinion their really good with some interesting characters and stories though i've only read two different online mangas. Oh and private message me if there are any other online manga sites.

It's amusing, but I really don't think it's all that people hype it up to be. I read it any it's often funny, but for the most part I dislike humor centered on "leet" culture and fandom.
As for online manga, I really haven't read many things. The only online comic I really read is American Elf.

Yeah, Megatokyo is good stuff, although I agree with Kagemusha - it's reputation is better than it is, especially with new stuff.
I enjoy the drama, more story based side of MT, but the level of comedy has dropped severely.

I've been following Megatokyo for about three years now, it actually helped get me into manga in general. Though I really need to get the graphic novels, and read all of the good old past chapters. I didn't get the many videogame and anime references before, but I probably will now.
However, I do agree that it is a bit overrated. Fred Gallagher's art is serviceable, but doesn't hold a candle to some of the other webcomics out there. The only aspects of his art I really like are his attention to architectural backgrounds and his characters' facial expressions. Lately the drama's been getting good, but yeah, I miss the humor. It's the reason I originally got into it, after all.

Been following it for ages. Truth is, the humor isn't as funny as it used to be, to me.
I only check sporadically anymore.

It a good webmanga. I said webmanga though, and it really beats me how it topped the charts in Bookscan. Anyway, I thought the plot was interesting (well-- there aren't very many Amerimanga anyway) but the characters...too annoying. It's just the whole "obsessed with video games" that bores me. The art seriously isn't anything exceptional in the webcomic, but the print version looked a bit better.

I actually really like MT's progression from just another gag strip to an actual 'graphic novel', with continuity and emphasis on drama and character relationships. Really, there are *way* too many web comics out there that merely cater to fans of particular media - some are good in their own ways, but after a point, you want something different. Hell, I'd actually be really happy if Fred cut it with MT entirely and started working on <i>Warmth</i> again!

I bought the first Megatokyo manga and it didn't really appeal to me. I disliked the running commentary at the bottom of each page, a commentary that the author even admitted was there just to fill up space! I guess he was honest about it at least.

He explained the reason for that in the commentary also. originally MT was a 4-panel comic, but on #110 he switched to the larger size that MegaTokyo is now. In the books also at that point the running commentary vanished.

Athough Megatokyo isn't the best out there, it does have appeal. I've been reading megatokyo for the past 5 years, which is exactly how old it is, and I only have 2 problems with it. The inconsistent updates which plagues just about every webmanga from time to time, and Shirt Guy Dom. Megatokyo is one of those things that you just know about if your into either manga, or webcomics. It's something I'm pretty sure that 90% of the webcommunity has ran into at least once. If I can offer any other and perhaps better webmangas, the only one that I can think of right now is the 10k Commotion. It's got a really good cast of characters, a likeable story, and if your a ddr fan, you'll love it immediatly and feel like you have to rush to the nearest machine and stomp some arrows.

Yeah, there are up to three books released, not counting Iron Cat's original printing of Vol. One.

Megatokyo is a major manga phenomenon here in the US.
It's author and his wife live solely on the proceeds of their online store based on Megatoyko related merchandise and on the sales of graphic novel (three volumes so far) reprints of material that is offered free on his own website, and the GNs have sold quite well.
Frankly, the story has experienced more than one massive transformation over the years, but I have enjoyed it through all its incarnations. From the beginning of geek computer video game culture humor, to the shoujo<sp>-like romance comedy it is today.
I have followed it continuously since I discovered it. I began on strip 420, and went back and read the previous 419 in about a day and a half (including going to work and doing other stuff).
The quality of the artwork is superior to every other webcomic I have come across (none of them even come close; although I readily admit that the manga-ka of Japan do better).
I read each new strip every publication day. I own the GNs, but have yet to pick up any merchandise (but then, I don't buy related merchandise for any manga or anime, so that's no surprise).
The forums he has set up for discussion have millions of posts all told. Those "proceeds" mentioned above are also enough to pay for the hefty servers he needs to run the very high traffic the forums are subject to.

Its kinda funny, and I have to admit the storys got me hooked now ^^
Not exactly manga, thogh, cos its American and drawn rite to left, but I gess u coudnt exactly put it in the anime forum lol
I agree with Grieving Chaos - it dosent seem to be as funny as it used to. In parts mabey, but there just arent as MANY jokes.
The story has got better thogh I think. I like the way they keep an element of mistery about Largos fantasies - there obviusly fantasies, but becos he was actaully made a member of the TPCD, the cop guy actaully has a mech, and there reelly was something to do with Miho (granted, she wasnt a zombie, but still...), it makes you wonder how much more truth there is. Mabey there is a reel zombie invasion on the horizon and its not just in his imagination.

I agree. I think Fred spoke of that himself at one point when he was leaving the 'webcomics can only be funny' way. I liked the transition and I like where the story is going right now. I like the direction the story is going in general. He's doing a wonderful job. =)
