I'm thinking about ordering Durarara!! from Right Stuf, but currently, it's not on sale. I usually wait until their company sale come up since I get to purchase the shows I want at 46% off the retail price. However, I can't recall seeing an Aniplex sale at Right Stuf before and was wondering if anyone has.

I don't think the prices will get any lower. Their catalog is still pretty small at the moment (Drrr!! Gurren movies, and R.O.D the complete) You could wait a couple years until they are defunct and they wind up in the bargain bin buutttt...Wink

Even in the bargain bin, Aniplex's absurd price points still won't make it much of a value...

You can only lower them so much.

As has already been pointed out, Aniplex doesn't have enough of a catalogue for TRSI to hold a company-specific sale of its products. However, every now and then TRSI has a "10 per cent off everything in stock"* sale, so you could save a bit there.

* that's ten per cent on top of its usual discounts, that is. Then, if you have a Got Anime membership you get another ten per cent off, of course.

I think this will be a case like NISA where you have to keep checking the Weekly Specials for the best deals. You'll get, tops, 40% off, but that's still good. Then again, Aniplex isn't exactly a normal distributor here, so it's anyone's guess how they'll be handled. But yea, just keeping the Weekly Specials every week to see if something pops up in there.

Won't that technically inflate the prices?

That or check the daily deals everyday, you might get lucky and find something from there on the DD's.

If you wait long enough, people will quit caring, technology will move on, and prices will drop.

You know, the same way Atari 2600 carts are only a couple bucks each these days. Wink

Well, that really depends on the cart. :3

And as it stands, unfortunately, Aniplex is holding onto some rather hot commodities. If crap like Shana can sell out and inflate so quickly, I'm sure you know what can happen once Aniplex announces their KnK or DRR sets are OOP.

OK I'll say it... I don't think Aniplex's prices are actually all that bad. I mean sure their orices on R.O.D and The Garden of Sinners are a bit high, but keep in mind that these are super high quality collector's sets. I mean when I first saw the prices I was shocked but then I saw what the releases where like and I was just blown away at how good they were. I think for hard core fans of these titles the price is well worth it. And I have a feeling that they will eventually make cheaper sets too. Also keep in mind that Aniplex is a brand new company that needs to turn a profit quick before they can start to move forward. Also let's not forget that it is owned by a Japanese parent company, and Japanese companies usually come into the American market thinking they can charge whatever they want for dvds because they think "Americans are rich, they can aford this."

And besides the R.O.D and Garden of the Sinners realeses, everything else is pretty reasonable. The Gurren Lagann movies are only $25 for the basic dvd and $42 for the limited edition dvd. I think those are fair pricings.

I agree. For the most part aniplex is sets are reasonable priced considering what your getting. This isn't funi where they have 100 of anime and can easily drop the price and still possibly make a profit.

Be happy this isn't Bandai back in the day when they charge $50 for 2 episodes per disc.

Take Bandai Visual USA for example. They printed up sooooo many copies of crap that would never sell (Demon Prince Enma, Galaxy Angel Rune, Wings of Rean, and I think Gunbuster 2 may be heading that way as well...) and now they are worth pennies brand new on Amazon. I don't know how gung ho Aniplex of America is going to be at this point because they only have ONE solid show, but if they go at it like BVUSA did towards the end with those expensive Blu-ray sets they won't be around for very long. So wait about four years from now and you will be able to pick up all of their overstock Drrr!! sets for a steal.

Yeah but $40 for nine episodes isn't much better. R1er's know they can go elsewhere and get brand new 13 episode show for around that same price. Sorry to say but it's still too pricey for most.

Yeah, from the looks of it, I'm going to have to go hunting in the weekly specials section for DRR just like I did for the Gurren Lagann movies. Currently, the DRR box set are at 39.98 which is fairly reasonable, but if they would allow the 10% Right Stuf membership discount to be applied, I would most likely pick them up in a jiffy.

It's too bad with their Garden of Sinners release as well. $400 is too steep for a 7 part movie collection even if they are amazing. I think they're just importing them from Japan and it's not actually licensed by them but still. I think this might just be one must have anime I will unfortunately have to skip on and hope for a more economical release down the line.

You called it. It's definitely aimed at English speakers but in no way official R1. The only difference between the set at TSRI and the Bandai Store vs the Amazon.jp set is ours has a separate booklet of English translations for the Japanese booklet. The price is a tad bit cheaper too.
