Finally we can agree. Jump is getting old. It doesn't help that the manga Viz decided to use is so cookie-cutter.

"Finally"? When did we not agree? You mean this? Maybe you missed it, but in my response I thought I basically capitulated to all your points. :)

As for SJ #3, I don't think I'd use the term "cookie-cutter" but I do think the stories are becoming a bit too formulaic. This doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading SJ, though - I've still got 9 issues left in my subscription after all!

Thanks for the response, GATSU.

Shonen Jump is actually an interesting title, especially considering that both the authors for One Piece and Naruto list Akira Toriyama as an inspiration. Its part of the reason their stories seem so formulatic.

What's really been interesting is how Raijin Comics is going. The stories there are definitly not "cookie-cutter" and the real surprise is how many of the stories are portraying Americans. As mass market interest grows for them, they should be careful with the stories they print. I think its really daring how they are pushing the envelope, but it may come back to haunt them in the future.

Cat-faces...

In the YYH bit, a point was brought up about drawn cat-faces.. are they cat-face cat-faces...

or are they THIS?

'cause, if they're that, then it's "Heno Heno Moheji". :D

It doesn't mean anything, but it's made from the kana 'he' 'no' 'mo' and 'ji'.. thus it's name..

Cat-face cat-faces.

It definitely wasn't like the image you linked to. If I remember, I'll scan a small image tonight at home.

Once, I read a post on raam about some guy who tried translating the japanese kana into alphabet letters...

... according to the 'fake' kana fonts for windows (where q is 'a' (kana), w is 'i' (kana), etc.)

and then he complained because he translated a page or two of text into gibberish ("qkobpfn. tedkjmodjcn." etc)...

later, i seem to recall him buying a dictionary only to find out that the words weren't in any sensible order. :)

hehe.

Give it to a non-anime fan, and hope thay gain an interest. I showed mine to a friend, she was hooked in mere minutes, and now runs out and gets her hands on them before I do!
