About an hour ago, I was looking at anime titles to see what kind of stuff there is to buy. I came across two titles that seemed really good. Thing is, I don't know anything about either. Does anyone have any comments on Doki Doki School Hours or Midori No Hibi? Any problems with either show?

Don't know Doki Doki, but Midori No hibi (Days of Midori) is an excellent comedy Romance.
It's currently being released as Midori's Days in the USA. Take a look at the encyclopedia entry for more info - I'm gonna buy it, when I've got some more money

doki doki school hours?
i think you're referring to Sensei no Ojikan.
I thought it was a pretty good show. Not phenomenal, but better than average. It's humor styled in the vein of Azumanga... but yea, Sensei no Ojikan came out first in Manga form.
I don't want to get into this whole debate about who came first, they're both good shows.
there's also a small amount of gay humor, so if you're offended or disturbed by that, you might want to back out.
it hasn't seen a US license, and the fansubs were never completed, they got up to episode 8, i believe.

And apparently Cromartie High School rounds out the triptytch of school comedy.
AzuDai for girls, Cromartie for boys, and Ojikan for both?

Ill put in a good word for Midori No Hibi (Midori's Days in the US) also. Not only is Midori herself one of the cutest damn anime characters ever, the show is lighthearted fun. It has a very scary seeming premise, a girl BECOMES a guys hand. All sorts of horrid sick imagery can be thought up there, but thankfully, this NEVER becomes an issue. It is known that this is the case, but the anime just seems to bypass it, knowing that to concentrate on it would destroy the show. So what youre left with is a funny little light love story and some very hilarious scenes as Midori has a huge crush on her Seiji and she seems to forget from time to time that she's attached to him, so for example she will hear the phone ring and go to answer it, dragging Seiji right out of bed and straight into a wall. Such comedy is commonplace in this show. Did I also mention I loved the OP/ED themes? All in all a very good show with a good ending and great artwork. Solid "A" in my gradebook.

The comedy aspect in Midori's day is good but the character Midori herself is annoying as hell. Think of a middle schooler that's shy, weak and nerdy. It has one of the worst ending ever (and so predictable) and the sad moment were cheesy and cliche. Also when I think about it, Seiji was like a sr in high school while that other chick is a lot younger, what the hell was he thinking.
Midori's day is mildy entertaiting, but I think some fat middleage nerdos regard it too highly because it was really really cute.

I recently turned in a review for the first volume of Midori Days, which should be posted sometime next week. Based on the first five episodes only, I am giving the series good but not stellar marks (B average). I found the miniature Midori irresistibly cute and felt that Seiji had a bit more substance than the norm. The series is only one step removed from being very cliched (a lot of its content have the look and feel of a typical anime romantic comedy), but the fact that the premise keeps it one step removed is one of the main reasons I'm giving it a positive review. It's also quite funny and nowhere near as dirty or perverse as its premise suggests it could be. Some damn funny outtakes in the DVD extras, too - make sure you check them out if you pick up this one.
I was also impressed by the English dub performances in the two leads roles, both of which are done by industry newcomers.

Whatever yo, obviously you dont love seiji-kun . Midori deserves nothing less than an A the way that Anime ends. Watch the rest and be in amazement. Personally one of the best anime series i've ever seen, and i've seen many.

I'm juts surprised the following tagline wasn't used :
"It's the craziest love story you'll ever see . . .
You've heard of ' Boy meets girl ',but would you
believe ' Boy's hand turns into girl ' ?"

Some may whine about the ending, but honestly, it's refreshing. It ends solidly and happilly, and that is an ending that is fairly rare in anime these days, even in romantic comedies.
The manga, honestly, is more comprehensive and takes us through MANY more adventures, but the anime stands on it's own laurels just fine. I think it's a WONDERFUL series for someone who's looking to simply ENJOY a show and laugh without feeling dirty (like one would at laughing at perverted humor) because this show is simply fun and very funny. It's also very sweet. Part of Midori's charm is that's she's so bubbly, sweet, and innocent AND that she's so attracted to a guy who is almost her polar opposite (I mean, Seiji does have the nick name of "Mad Dog Sawamura", after all). And the fact that she loves him for who he really is, and doesn't try and "change" him, but lets her influence change him naturally for the better, is something you don't always see either.
Midori isn't a grand master piece of comedy, I'll grant you that, but I think the series IS deserving of an overall grade of A-. It's not the best, but it's certainly up there among the series I call "meatloaf" anime: it's like comfort food, you just feel good after watching it.

"Right Hand Seiji".

Do you watch a lot of romantic comedy anime and non/anime like Love on a Diet, Romantic star etc? They all end the same. Seiji suddenly realized that he really like her now that she's gone (from his hand). Then they just "happen" to meet up at thier special place where they first had that special moment. Overdone and cliche a million times over. I was hoping that he got with his classmate who tried so hard to be with him rather than lamo Midori. Or at least think of a creative ending.
Midori's purpose in life is to be with Seiji and to do whatever for him as long as he's happy and with her. That's lame, doesn't she have any other motivation, any other hobbies or dream? Remind me too much of all those typical romance comedy anime like Hands Maid May, please teacher or ai yori aoishi.
Everyone is saying how innovated and new Midori's day is, but I just see it as most other romantic comedy with a gimmick. I think the part that kill it for me is the overdone sad story, it never made me sad or emotional or anything, it just made me yawn because it's so force upon you. Seiji though is a good main character, his reaction and sensibility makes the show easy to enjoy.
I really like the episode with the crazy sister, his classmate that's always daydreaming about falling in love and the geeky otaku guy. Those were the funny moments with many laughs. Other than that, everything about the romance is so simple and "kiddy". Is it "that" funny when Midori confess her love to seiji, than hide behind his sleeve and giggle because she's embarassed? Nope, it's annoying and childsh. I'll give it a B and rather check out the manga or stick with Sakura Diaries or Saikano which has some really deep moments.

Yep I can guess
It's when seiji becomes midori's right hand
I found that out when I read the synopsis for the second DVD release and I'd have to say I'm now looking forward to obtaining the second volume but that all depends on if I can find a site that will be selling it (as the first volume dissapeared from my normal on-line buying resource and I had to end up paying an extra £5.75 on top of what I had set out to spend)
Edit: I just found out that the place where I was going to but the first volume from didn't remove it they chaged the name it went under.
