why is this? it's not even listed on rightstuf, and the users on amazon are selling it for insane prices.

You can get used copies from Amazon for quite reasonable prices (albeit over RRP).
This was the reply I got from Rightstuf last July:
So you'd have to take any issues up with Viz. You might be able to get complete sets (1-26) from eBay if you're lucky. |

With shipping, the cheapest used on amazon is $16.

You can get volume 14 for $40 from RACS - http://www.animecornerstore.com/huxhuno.html
Viz better be planning on republishing the whole series one day. |

Lol are you for real? This guy excects us to take his store seriously with blatant price gouging? Hah! Yeah love it how a while back TSRI gets in some mystery volumes of Kanon 5 and offers them to us at a FAIR price instead of the inflated (and delusional) Amazon $50 price. Guess this shows who I trust. |

Seriously, what is with that? I would think a distributor such as RACS would stick at the very least to MSRP. Very good to know though, for the future. |

Robert's explained this pricing issue before- basically, he tries to keep all volumes on any series currently being released in-stock. For a long time, these were all at the standard pricing. Unfortunately, the lack of reprints means some titles have gone completely dry through regular channels, only leaving overpriced collector market copies available. After much debate, he's decided to bring in these crazy-priced books as a last resort. In other words, they cost that much because that's the cheapest RACS can get them for right now (new, anyway). They're there for the sake of those who're willing to spend $50 on a manga to at least have a reputable source to send that $50 to (as opposed to a shady amazon or ebay seller). I still visits RACS first anytime I'm hunting for a missing manga volume- I pretty much know they'll have it, the only question is, has the pricing gone up yet. They still keep in-stock some volumes TRSI doesn't have anymore at reasonable prices- Bastard!, for example. A lot of those books are so far gone RACS had to pull them becuase they just can't get them anymore... but they still have volumes TRSI doesn't that haven't hit the bloated pricing yet. |

Well, thank you for explaining, but then it calls into question, how much is the markup? If he finds a bargain somewhere (say someone is selling a like new copy for $5 because they don't know that it's OOP), does he mark it up a usual distributor's markup (25-40%, this would be acceptable to me), or does he try to get the most for his money (e.g.: undercut amazon marketplace's inflated prices by a couple of dollars).

I think the trick is, RACS doesn't buy from smaller sellers with 1 or 2 copies up used somewhere. That would make it awfully hard on site updates... put listing up for 1 book, take it down when it sells- kind of annoying. Plus, what if 2 people order at the same time? Who gets shafted? The prices stay high beacuse they have to deal with sellers that have enough copies to make listing the book worthwhile- and those guys are going to know what their stuff is worth. On the flip side- if you're hoping to get a deal on random odds n' ends that can't be on the website, RACS has an amazon front too- I bought 3 of the Eat-Man VHS tapes from them a few years back for $2 apiece. Not everything is the best deal, but it's worth a look. |

Population_tire, I hope you see this first, and before anyone else. I looked into the volume at all of my back-up stores and no luck. This is one hard to find volume. But I did find one copy on ebay decently priced for about $22 (including shipping).
