That spinning totalvid anime download ad in the upper right corner of the webpage is incredibly annoying. I hope they pay you a lot to run it to make up for all the grief it causes your readers.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the totalvid ad is annoying. That thing gives me headaches everytime I look at it.

As much as ad supported sites may dislike it, I usually just ignore banner ads, so I don't have much problem with it.

..... Now that you pointed it out, it’s starting to become annoying... Thanks

It's not really the spinning effects that annoy me. The background pic is severely pixelated. Not very professional.

We could always make the site a subscription site to get rid of the ads.
Unfortunately this site is too timeconsuming to be run for free, so we need the advertisors, and as long as they don't break our terms of service, we're not going to tell them that they can't put up "annoying ads."

I'd be willing to pay afew bucks a year to be able to view the site ad free, and to support it as well.

Seriously, I had never paid attention to it.
Just look at the forums. Unless you keep watching it all the time, you normally don't realize it's there...

Funny, I see it all the time without paying attention to it. It's not so much annoying, but that I usually catch a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye, and it looks like my browser is refreshing or randomly being redirected to a new page.

I should clarify my statement by pointing out that our Terms of Service do ban a large number of annoyances.
No pops of any type.
No Sound onload (interactive sound is okay).
No explicit porn in the ads. (Implied situations are fine by us).
But refusing a banner because it's looping is visually annoying would be rather advertisor unfriendly on our part. I've received a few complaints about that ad being annoying, but most people I've talke to aren't bothered by it.

We've wanted to set something of this sort up for a while, and we'll probably end up doing it by the end of the year.
We're probably looking at something around $30 / year, for a seperate server with no (optional) ads, and less traffic. We'd also like to include some sort of bonus premium, but we don't want to restrict anything that's currently free.

The advertisements on this site don't bother me at all. In fact, I think they are occasionally very helpful and effective in attracting consumers. I will most likely be purchasing some of the anime dvds and products that the ads are advertising, sometime in the near future. The ads don't bother me at all, and even if they did, I would rather not pay for access to this site even though it's my favorite anime site.

30$ a year for a subscription is a bit stiff if that is you only subscription option (most of the websites I subscribe to are for about 6 months at a time). However, a tiered system of a monthly subscription, a quarterly subscription, and a yearly subscription would most likely work quite well.
As for some ideas for additional benefits:
- Distinct maker in the forums for subscribers
- Discount coupon for subscription to Protoculture
- Means to download articles for offline viewing (some of us are still on dialup)

Oh yeah, there'd definitely be monthly, quateryl, etc... options.

All good ideas, and 2 of them are easy to do.

I noticed that the totalvid ad changed. It looks a lot better than before.
