Hey, I'm doing research into making an anime, such what exactly goes into the pre-production, production and post when making something like anime, in terms of budget numbers, talent and etc for something like Trigun.

Essentially a "Show Bible" of sorts, does anybody know anything about it or where I can get such information from?

You might want to look into Makoto Shinkai. He is known for making anime almost completely by himself on his Mac with commercially available software. I think the tools are out there, anybody with the determination and drive could produce something of quality even if they're working on a shoe string budget. As for the typical anime budget consisting of cast & crew I'm not sure but I believe it could range anywhere from 50k to $1 million per episode (Afro Samurai) depending on the studio and what they're working with. Trigun probably had a budget of maybe 100k a episode.

From my personal experience, you can sometimes find production videos and explanation on how an anime was created from the extras on dvds. You can try looking on youtube to find these extras or looking through your own personal collection. The latest one I can rememeber on the top of my head is Mushishi in which they go into detail how the art is drawn and what goes on in the studios.

For sales budget production Try Here, examples, include Cowboy Bebop 20,000,000 yen per episode, One Piece 10,000,000 Yen per episode, Ghost in the Shell: Sac 30,000,000 Yen per episode, Neon Genesis Evangelion 6,250,000 per episode. If you take into account the production cost of a specific show, compare the quality of animation and when it was made then you can get an estimate cost of any show in theory. This Thread, "Start up cost of an Anime Studio?" is a bit old but it talks about how many people are generally involved in the makings of a show and related information.

The ANNcast interviews alot of big name in anime, particularly United States based but has a goldmine of information on what goes on during production, sales, licensing, costs and etc.

Become as insanely productive as Fred Perry? This thread made me remember his Gold Digger OVA he animated himself while also drawing the monthly comic. Neat to see all 3 volumes were completed [I'm guessing that's a movie cut of the 3 25 minute OVA's]
