Do you know why Tokyopop almost went bankrupt?
Because it releases "Skelanimal collectible books", "Princess Ai puzzles", crappy films like Van Von Hunter, and it throws thousands of dollars down the sink with garbage like "America's Greatest spoiler[Weeaboo] Otaku". I'm just glad that the High School Musical, Lizzie McGuire, and Hannah Montana manga died along with the half of Tokyopop's catalogue that will never see the printer again due to crappy tie-ins to crappy movies.

But what about titles like Tsukuyomi Moon Phase and Battle Club, and other (non-movie tie-ins) manga they dropped previously in mid story? When will they finish these titles instead of starting new ones I probably will never read.

Still no confirmation about B't X's last volume? Amazon and Barnes & Noble both have it listed for release on November 30, 2010, yet TokyoPop doesn't list it on their list of upcoming releases?

Diaz-Przybyl stated information about specific titles can be directed to them at their Facebook page which is answered by actual staff & not interns.
That said, it didn't seem "brief" on Labrynth. It seemed to take up a sizable amount of time so that they had to speed up their presentation to finish in time. It seemed as though at least half the presentation was on non-Asian merchandise. They are launching a library system where one can "borrow" a manga for the loan period, then it vanishes. LA library system has it & they said about 20 other libraries are using it. They said the Japanese are balking quite a bit more than the Koreans are over this so consequentially there is a lot of manwha content up vs Japanese. |

I wasn't at the panel, but I'd also encourage people to contact Tokyopop through Twitter, Facebook, etc., for questions or concerns about a series. I've seen them really made it a point in the last year+ to have good communication with their fans and readers. Even if they can't give you the news you want about a title right away, asking about it (and having all your friends/family/neighbours ask about it) shows them that people are interested in the titles. Series like Suppli, Gatcha Gacha, VB Rose, Pick of the Litter, and a number of others, were brought back onto their release schedule because readers kept asking about them. So keep it up and show your dedication!

I don't do Twitter or Facebook myself, though I occassionaly read some Twitter feeds, but I can definitely say that using TP's message boards is utterly useless now, as nothing is ever answered there. Call me old-fashioned, but sticking to just a couple of methods of communication isn't going to cover everyone who has concerns. |

So, I wonder how many people are needed for Monochrome Factor to be continued? Because being stuck at volume 4 is not fun at all. I've yet to buy the books but I want to. >__< (In spite, TP is my least favorite manga publisher, they're still the ones with some titles that I have interest in.) |

Surprised to hear that they're going to speed up the Gauken Alice release, it seemed like they were heavily promoting it early on but focused on newer stuff recently. I'm a few volume behind myself so I'll get cracking there if I want to keep up.

It's too bad there isn't anything on The Embalmer. They responded to my question on Twitter back in September, but said they had no news on it. I was hoping to see it in the line-up, but at this point I should probably just accept that it'll hit the OOP stacks soon and the license will expire. /negativity
I'm kind of iffy on some of this. Tokyopop hasn't made the greatest decisions in the past. Though some of their new ventures definitely have potential, I worry worry about other ideas and how it might shift their focus. They appear to be recovering, though, which is good... I also wish they had staff going through the forums again. E-mails and such are great, but sometimes we don't get answers. Does anybody actually know what happened to the Kingdom Hearts manga? |
