Ever since I read Tatsumi's Abandon the Old in Tokyo I fell in love with gekiga. I fully support any more gekiga licenses.
This sounded like an awesome panel, I wish I was there.

I hope we get more "Manga for Grown-ups" licensed!
Would really like to see works from tsuge published, until then, continue your good work Top Shelf, D&Q, Last Gasp etc

Here, here! I'd love to see "Planet J@p" (silly "bad word" filter ) get an English translation. That would certainly give the conservative wasp nest a good whack.

A couple of Tsuge's short stories have been published in English (in Raw and The Comics Journal) but, those aside, he's said that he's against having his works translated.
Of course, he might change his mind (I certainly hope so) but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Glad to know that there's been a huge interested in the alternative manga. I would have loved to have attended that panel but I'm writing these things down. Cigarette Girl is a interesting title so I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm also curious to check out 'Garo'. All these titles are going on my list of recommendations for next both this semester and next. Hopefully I'll hear more about them when I attend NYCC/NYAF.

Goro, if it's the same Goro I remember, was a monthly mag sort of like Shonen Jump, and it's been out of print since the 80's.

I know it's little off-subject. Has anyone seen Crayon Shinchan episode called "Gekiga Crayon Shinchan"? I watched it couple years from Youtube and it really pokes fun of Gekiga story style.
By the I love Gekiga comics, when Tatsumi's "Drifting Life" showed up on a bookstore, I bought it right away. I hope they publish more.
