I assume it's an anime movie, but the source doesn't really specify if it's anime or live-action, does it?

I think it's just safe to assume it's an anime movie.

OT: Companies complain that there hasn't been a real hit anime coming out of Japan. What about this?

But oh god, if the animation is as good as the DS cutscene animation, I will joy in my pants. Many times. Pokemon's got nothing on this hotness (same animation company).
