wow I am one of those BD orders
The 2nd movie is awesome, and I was not expecting it to happen the way everything did.

Very nicely done, Evangelion. 2.22 was awesome
Now begins the wait for Q (Quickening), as well as for the domestic release in 1.5 years or so.

I got my copy of the Blu-Ray as well, film print and all, and worth every penny considering how many times I'll watch it before Funimation gets around to releasing it (which BTW I will also buy). It's raw Japanese yes but considering it still follows the TV series somewhat I can still get the jist of what's going on (that and I've seen a rough translation).
I'm seeing Funi announcing a release sometime during the summer con season so I'm sure we'll hear something soon on that front.

Amazing sales figures.
Haven't had the pleasure to watch the movie yet but I've seen nothing but glowing responses.
Just a shame it takes them so long to release these movies.
Fingers crossed FUNi pulls their finger out and gets this released asap. Don't fancy waiting another year and a half from domestic Japanese release to US release...

Also noting an interesting fact: more BDs than DVDs were sold. Just for the record, how is BluRay uptake in Japan compare to say North America. I'm wondering if this is perhaps an early sign of a format "changing of the guard," so to speak.

Was just about to say this.
I'm sooooo tempted to get the Hong Kong Blu Ray of this just to get English subtitles. Plus it's only 30 bucks!
For people who got this, what film strip you guys get? I got the second to last scene after the credits, where Unit 6 is flying from the Moon towards Unit 1

After the success of the first new Evangelion movie's release this was to be expected, but at the same time I can already begin to imagine how much more the Japanese are going to ask for the license. Let's try and hope that doesn't result in too many delays this time around.

Evangelion totally isn't an outlier or anything. Nope, not at all.
And even if FUNi licensed this at the beginning of the year, it'd still take until Christmas until it's released, if not later.

To put these numbers into perspective, that total for first-day sales is 5-6x as high as most late-night 12-13 ep series ever sell for their entire series run.

What I find amazing is that these numbers are for the day before it's supposed to be released.
Will the sales be even higher for today, the actual release date? That would be crazy...

Doesn't the article state that these are the numbers for Tuesday? Which is the day before its street release date?
I'm quite confused now.

I'll be glad to buy it once its licenced lets see, in about 3 years! .......and we wonder why fansubbers exist... oh well I did love this movie, I wish I could support it somehow, Im a bit hesitent with the hong kong subs. I wish japan would relize that Eva isn't a house hold name in america like it is in japan, maybe then we wouldn't need these pointless bidding wars for a product that wolnt sell neerly as well in the states, it would be different if we could work with studio khara to make a dual release like Gundam unicorn. What? I can dream!
