Pretty sure the TV series came first. The TV series (and the manga it's based off of) were pretty good. His TV anime design reminds me of Filmation's He-Man a lot, and the series had a similar magic + technology vibe as Masters of the Universe.

I'd have to agree that the OVA is pretty vapid, especially without seeing the TV series. The OVA (Golden-Eyed Beast) also does away with all the fun supporting characters featured in the manga/TV anime. Kabuto's talking enchanted sword Hiryu doesn't even talk in the OVA.

I didn't know there was an OVA of this. As a fan of Buichi Terasawa I'm sooooo going to hunt this down.

Given the historic and joyful occasion that happened only hours ago, I'm too happy right now to subject myself to the levels of torture normally required to write a Buried Garbage column.

I'm just glad we still have places to celebrate.

He's a tengu! Duh. Razz

Now, a few manga artists have successfully made the transition to anime director (Katsuhiro Otomo immediately comes to mind), but the jobs really don't have that much in common, and while Terasawa might have been a great manga artist, he pretty much falls on his face as a director.

Actually, the manga's a mess, too. [But if you wanna try, it's legally available somewhere on the Internets auction sites in English, thanks to Comics One.]

It sounds like a lot of OAVs and movies we use to get like GoShogun:The Time Estranger. A lot of the material was explained in the TV show, but since we never saw the TV show the movie made little sense.

Hi guys,

I've scoured the net for information on the ending theme for this Anime without any luck. Who performs it and where can I buy it if possible?

Thanks in advance!!

IIRC, the OVA used the same music as the TV series.

"Beyond The Era~Jidai wo koete~" by Mika Kaneko (female singer)
"KABUTO" by Akira Kushida (male singer)

I'm no better. The first time I saw it, I rented it alongside the original Vampire Hunter D, and I enjoyed this one more. It could be that I had bad tastes as well.

I know I've seen this one, but I only have the vaguest memories of it.

Well, that series was broadcasted here in Mexico some years ago (under the name Ninja Kabuto) and I agree that it was pretty silly at first, since many people thinked in that time that Kabuto was a Japanese copy of some American superhero comic but with a Japanese twist. (at least the dub was excellent in Spanish)

Did they also think it resembled Masters of the Universe (Amos del Universo)?

It's people like you that made me have to get up and find a dictionary when everyone in The Fellowship of the Ring went to get wood for a fire.
